Two strands wind around each other the whole way round this band, and they are not the same. One is plain polished gold. The other is set with a line of small round moissanite between milgrain beaded edges. As the ring turns on the finger the two swap places, so the shoulder that shows plain metal from one angle shows a row of stones from another. Under the head a few extra accents fill the space where the strands cross. It is a design that rewards a second look, which is exactly what a ring worn every day should do. Design and craftsmanship

Setting pave on a strand that spirals is harder than setting it on a flat shoulder, because the surface presented to the setter changes angle with every stone. Each seat has to be cut on its own plane and each bead raised to sit square to the curve, or the row twists visibly out of line. After the stones are in, the milgrain is run along both edges of the set strand with a knurling wheel, which frames the row and gives the vintage texture that separates this from a plain modern twist. The plain strand is left polished so the contrast between the two is clear. Every piece is finished by hand by our bench in Surat.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, not carbon, so it is a different material from a diamond rather than a lower grade of one. It measures 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, which makes it hard wearing and well suited to daily use. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more colored fire, and small stones show that fire most readily. On a spiralling row the effect is that the sparkle appears to travel around the band as the hand moves. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, gives the strongest contrast between the plain strand and the stone set one, which is the whole point of the design. Rose gold does the same more softly. White gold makes the two strands blend into a single bright twist. For a stone set spiral worn daily 14K is harder than 18K and holds fine beads and milgrain better over time, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. Because both the twist and the pave run the full circumference, we make this style to size rather than resizing it afterwards. Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone and every accent are lab created moissanite, and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

Why is only one strand set with stones?
Contrast. If both strands were paved the twist would disappear into one bright band. Leaving one plain keeps the spiral visible and makes the set strand read as a line of light winding around the finger.

What is milgrain?
The row of tiny raised beads along the edges of the stone set strand. It is a traditional finishing technique that frames the pave and softens the transition between stones and metal.

Is the twisted band comfortable?
Yes. The spiral is on the outer surface only. The inside is finished as a smooth comfort fit curve, so it feels like an ordinary band on the finger.

Can this ring be resized?
We would rather make it in your correct size. Resizing means cutting through both the twist and the pave line, which interrupts the pattern and requires resetting stones.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
A straight band sits against it but not perfectly flat, because of the spiral. A matching twisted band nests into this one and is the better pairing.

Do the small pave stones fall out?
Rarely when set properly. Each bead is raised by hand and checked under magnification, and we offer a free annual check to tighten anything that has loosened with wear.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Work the brush along the groove between the two strands and around the milgrain, where residue collects. Rinse well and dry with a lint free cloth.

How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time. Every ring is cut and set only after it is ordered.
