Matching the two shanks is a decision most bridal sets avoid, and for a reason worth knowing. The usual approach is to make the band deliberately quieter than the engagement ring so it cannot compete, which works but produces two objects of obviously different rank. Repeating the same spacing on both does the opposite: with identical accent intervals, the eye reads the two shanks as a single wider band interrupted once by a diamond, and the centre stone appears to sit in the middle of a much broader piece of jewellery than either ring is on its own. The condition for it working is precision. Band details
