An emerald cut lab grown diamond held in a full bezel finished with rows of fine milgrain beading all the way around, on a plain polished band with open cut out shoulders. There are no accent stones.

A plain bezel gives a hard bright outline. Working milgrain into it changes that completely. The beaded edge scatters light in small broken points rather than one continuous line, so the frame around the stone glows softly instead of reflecting like a mirror. It is the reason antique bezel set rings look warmer than modern ones.

The beading here is applied by hand with a knurling wheel, running in rows around both the outer and inner edge of the bezel wall. It is slow work and it cannot be cast convincingly, which is why so few bezel rings are finished this way.

The band is deliberately quiet. A rounded polished shank with a small open window at each shoulder, nothing more, so the decorated bezel is the only detail on the ring. The bezel also protects the corners of the step cut, which makes this one of the most practical settings we offer.

Band details

A rounded shank of even width, polished throughout, rising to meet the bezel without any raised gallery. The small openings at the shoulders keep the ring light and let you see through the setting from the side.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. White gold is finished with rhodium for a bright cool white. Yellow gold, shown here, shows milgrain at its best, which is why antique pieces with this finish were usually made in warm metal.

Is the center stone a real diamond
Yes. A lab grown diamond is real diamond. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond. The only difference is where it was grown.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

What is milgrain
A row of tiny metal beads worked along an edge with a knurling wheel. It softens the outline and scatters light, and it is one of the signatures of Edwardian and art deco jewellery.

Is a bezel more secure than claws
Yes. A full bezel supports the girdle all the way round and covers the corners of the step cut, which are the most vulnerable points. It is the setting we recommend for anyone who works with their hands.

Can this ring be resized later
Yes. The band carries no stones, so sizing is straightforward. Your first resizing with us is free.

How is this different from your other bezel rings
Our solid bezel fine band ring and our split wire bezel ring both use plain polished bezel walls. This design is the only one finished with milgrain beading, which gives it a distinctly antique character.

Does a wedding band sit flush against it
Yes. The profile is low and the edges are clean, so a plain or milgrain edged band sits neatly beside it.

Will the milgrain wear away
Only very slowly, and only on the high points. Avoid polishing cloths, which flatten beading faster than wear does. We can recut it during a service.

Which metal should I choose
Yellow or rose gold for the most authentic antique look. White gold or sterling silver if you want the bezel to disappear and the diamond to look as wide as possible.
