An emerald cut lab grown diamond in four ball tipped claws on an antique style band, where marquise shaped panels set with marquise diamonds alternate with small round accents, every element outlined in fine milgrain beading.

This marquise and dot pattern is one of the oldest decorative bands in the trade. It comes from Edwardian work, where jewellers filled a narrow shank with alternating shapes rather than a single row of stones, and outlined each one in beading so the metal read as lace rather than as a channel.

The marquise panels are pointed at both ends and sit lengthways along the band, which draws the eye along the finger and makes a slim shank look longer. Between them the small round accents act as full stops. Neither element would be interesting on its own. The rhythm is what makes it.

Milgrain runs along every edge, applied by hand with a knurling wheel. It softens the outlines and catches light in a broken, warm way that a polished edge cannot, and it is the single detail that separates a genuine antique style band from a modern imitation of one.

Band details

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. White gold is finished with rhodium for a bright cool white. Yellow gold shows milgrain and panel outlines most clearly, which is why antique bands of this type were usually made in it.

Is the center stone a real diamond
Yes. A lab grown diamond is real diamond. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond. The only difference is where it was grown.

Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

What is a marquise and dot band
An Edwardian pattern where marquise shaped panels alternate with small round accents along the shank, each outlined in milgrain. It gives a narrow band a great deal of detail without adding bulk.

Will the milgrain wear away
Very slowly, and only on the high points. Avoid polishing cloths, which flatten beading faster than daily wear does. We can recut milgrain during a service if it ever softens.

Can this ring be resized later
Within a size or two, using the plain metal underneath. Tell us your size as accurately as you can. First resizing is free.

How is this different from your other vintage bands

Does a wedding band sit flush against it
Yes. The band is straight and the setting is low, so a plain or milgrain edged band sits neatly beside it. A matching marquise and dot band looks particularly good with this ring.

How do I clean it
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, working gently along the beading where dust settles.
