Instead of a solid row of pave, this band carries a rhythm: marquise, round, marquise, round, each stone set on its own with a small bead of metal between it and the next. The spacing is the point. Light passes between the stones as well as through them, so the shoulders read as a scattered line rather than a solid strip, and the ring looks lighter on the hand than a fully paved band of the same width. Design and craftsmanship

Alternating two shapes on a curved band is harder than it looks. Each marquise has to be seated so its long axis follows the curve of the finger, and each round has to sit at the same height as the marquise on either side of it, or the row looks uneven from above. Our setters lay out the whole shoulder before any stone goes in, then set them one at a time and level the row by eye under magnification. The prongs are shared between neighbouring stones, which is what keeps the metal minimal and lets light through the gaps. The band measures about 2 mm and the accent stones sit slightly proud of it, giving the shoulders a beaded, hand made texture. Every piece is finished by our bench in Surat.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, not carbon, so it is a different material from a diamond rather than a lower grade of one. It measures 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, which makes it hard wearing and well suited to daily use. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more colored fire. Marquise cuts in particular throw long flashes of light because of their elongated facets, which is why they alternate so well with the tighter sparkle of a round. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

White gold, as photographed, keeps the whole ring reading as one line of light. For a stone set band worn every day 14K is the practical choice because it is harder than 18K and holds shared prongs more securely over the years, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The accent stones stop before the base of the band, so a jeweller can resize the ring later without disturbing them. Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone and every accent are lab created moissanite, and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

How is this different from a pave band?
Pave sets many tiny stones side by side in a continuous strip. Here each stone is larger, set on its own, and separated by a bead of metal, so the shoulders sparkle in distinct points rather than as one solid line.

Why alternate marquise and round?
The two cuts behave differently in light. A marquise throws long flashes along its axis and a round scatters light in all directions, so alternating them keeps the shoulders lively from every angle instead of repeating the same flash.

Are marquise accents fragile?
The tips are the delicate part of any marquise, so we set each one with a prong covering the point rather than leaving it exposed. Handled normally the stones are secure, and we offer a free annual check where we tighten anything that has loosened.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Close, but not perfectly flat. The accent stones sit slightly proud of the band, so a straight wedding band may show a small gap. We can make a contoured band shaped to this ring if you want them to sit flush.

Does moissanite scratch or cloud over time?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance comes from the material itself rather than a coating.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Work the brush into the spaces between the accent stones, where lotion collects. Rinse well and dry with a lint free cloth.

How long does it take to make?
