Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%A pear cut moissanite in six ball tipped claws with one tapered baguette moissanite laid along each shoulder, wide end toward the centre and narrow end running out along the finger, held by a bar of metal at the outer end. The band is plain and slim with nothing else on it.
We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.
This is the point of the design and it is worth understanding before you choose it.
The centre is a brilliant cut, faceted into many small triangular and kite shaped facets that break light into flashes. The side stones are step cut, faceted into long parallel planes like steps, which is what a baguette is.
Step cut stones do not sparkle. They reflect in broad flat sheets, so they read as clear glassy panels rather than as glitter. Set beside a brilliant cut centre the contrast is deliberate and it is the whole effect. The pear flashes, the baguettes stay still and calm, and the difference between them makes both more visible than either would be alone.
If you were expecting the side stones to sparkle like the centre, they will not, and that is by design rather than a shortcoming.
A tapered baguette is wider at one end than the other. Here the wide end sits against the centre and the narrow end points outward.
That does two things. It fills the space beside the pear where the stone is widest, so there is no awkward gap, and it draws a line that narrows as it runs down the finger, which continues the elongating effect the pear itself is chosen for. Set the other way round the ring would look front heavy and the taper would fight the shape.
Each baguette is finished with a small bar of metal across its outer end, which is the traditional way to secure a step cut stone and protects its most vulnerable corner.
Our Channel Set Baguette ring runs several small baguettes down each shoulder inside a channel, which reads as a continuous band of step cut light rather than as three stones.
Our Kite Cut Three Stone rings use angular four sided kites, which are also step cut in feeling but sit closer to the centre and read as pointed rather than linear.
Our Pear Side Three Stone ring uses matching brilliant cut pears, so the whole ring sparkles uniformly.
This is the only ring where a single large tapered baguette sits on each side. It is the most Art Deco design in our pear range, and the most architectural.
The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger.
The two side stones are tapered baguette cut moissanite, which is a step cut. Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, matched before setting. Clarity matters more in a step cut than in a brilliant, because the broad open facets of a baguette show any inclusion clearly instead of hiding it among flashes, which is why we use VVS throughout.
Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.
Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat, with the baguettes scaled to keep the proportion.
Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, where the warm bars at the ends of each baguette frame the step cut panels and the ring reads as a piece of designed geometry. In white gold or silver you get the closest thing to an original 1920s platinum ring, and the step cuts read as cool clear glass. Rose gold is unexpected here and rather good. 10K is the hardest gold, 14K the everyday balance, 18K the richest colour. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.
Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set the centre, fit and set each tapered baguette to its own seat, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations. Step cut stones have to be seated precisely, because any tilt shows immediately in a flat reflective surface.
Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Pay attention to the flat top surfaces of the baguettes, because a step cut shows a film of hand cream far more obviously than a brilliant does, and a smeared baguette looks dull in a way a smeared brilliant does not. There is no pave to clog. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.
Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes, well. The baguettes lie flat along the shoulders and the shank is plain, so a flat band meets it cleanly.
Can it be resized? Yes. The lower shank is plain, which makes this straightforward.
Are the baguette corners protected? Yes. The bar at the outer end covers the narrow tip, which is where a tapered baguette is most easily chipped.
Why do the side stones look different from the centre? Because they are a different cut. Step cut and brilliant cut are meant to look different, and the contrast is the design.
Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
