Pear Cut Moissanite Slim Bezel Low Profile Solitaire Ring

A pear cut moissanite held in a fine bezel, a continuous rim of metal following the outline of the stone with no claws anywhere. The rim is deliberately thin, just enough to grip the girdle, so it frames the pear as a bright outline rather than swallowing its edge. The whole head sits low, close against the finger, on a slim rounded band of about 1.8 mm that meets the setting without a gallery.

There is nothing else on the ring. No accents, no halo, no texture. Seen from above the pear reads as a clean teardrop with a fine metal outline around it, which is a very different effect from the same stone held in claws.

Why a bezel suits a pear

The tip of a pear is the part most likely to chip, and a bezel encloses it completely instead of leaving it exposed under a single claw. There is nothing to snag on knitwear, nothing to catch on a bag strap, and nothing to work loose. Combined with the low profile, this is the most practical pear ring we make for someone who never wants to think about their ring.

How it compares to our other bezel set pear rings

Every design is listed separately, and we make three bezel pear rings that differ mainly in how much metal is involved. This one uses the thinnest rim on the slimmest band and sits lowest; it is the quietest and the least expensive. Our bezel on a wide flat band uses the same kind of rim but lifts it on an open gallery above a 4 mm square edged shank, which is architectural and much more substantial. Our wide bezel cup design wraps the stone in a deep, broad plate of metal with sculpted claws on top, and is the boldest thing in our pear range.

If you want a bezel because you like how it looks, any of the three will do. If you want one because you want to stop worrying about your ring, this is the one to buy.

Metals and sizes

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. All gold is solid, never plated and never filled. White gold is rhodium finished. A bezel puts metal directly against the girdle of the stone, so the metal colour shows through the outer edge of the moissanite more than it would in a claw setting. Yellow gold, shown here, gives a warm outline; white gold keeps the edge neutral. Centre stone sizes run from 2 carat to 5 carat.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India. Every ring is made by our own team after you order. A thin bezel is harder than a thick one. The rim has to be formed to the exact outline of the stone before the stone goes in, and a pear has a point, two shoulders and a curve, each needing a different pressure to close. Too little and the stone moves; too much and the point chips. Our setters do this by hand with a punch and burnisher.

Care

Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale and takes daily wear well. Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, letting it soak for a few minutes first so residue lifts from under the rim. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. There are no claws to check or tighten, which makes this the lowest maintenance ring in our pear range.

Resizing

The band is plain the whole way round, so this ring resizes very easily, by three sizes or more in either direction.

Questions people ask

Is the centre stone a diamond? No. It is moissanite, a gemstone in its own right, and we never describe it as a diamond.

Does a bezel make the stone look smaller? Slightly, because the rim covers the outermost edge of the girdle. We keep the rim as fine as we safely can for exactly that reason. If maximum apparent size matters most to you, our classic six claw solitaire shows more stone.

Will the bezel dull the sparkle? A little light that would enter through the girdle in a claw setting is blocked. In practice, on a stone this size, most people never notice. What you gain is a stone that will still be there in thirty years.

Which way does the pear point? Toward the fingertip as standard, which is what lengthens the finger. Tell us in the order notes if you want it the other way.

Can I wear a wedding band with it? Yes, and this is among the best rings in our range for it. The head sits low and the shank is slim, so a straight band sits almost flush with only a small gap under the point.

Does the price change with carat size? Yes. The 2 carat is the base price and each larger size adds a small amount. The exact price appears when you select a combination.
