Why the point is protected

The tip of a pear is the most vulnerable part of the shape. Ours sits under a claw that wraps around it rather than a plain prong resting on top. It is the difference between a point that survives a decade of daily wear and one that chips on a door frame in the first year, and it is not something we treat as optional.

How it compares to our spaced accent pear ring

Every design is listed separately, and we make a closely related ring with the same alternating marquise and round shoulders. The single difference is the hidden halo. That one has a plain polished basket with nothing under the stone; this one has a full ring of small accents down there. In practice the halo adds sparkle from every side angle, raises the stone a fraction, and costs more. Compare the two side view photographs and the difference is obvious. Neither is better; they are the same idea at two levels of detail, and we would rather show you both than pretend they are the same ring.

Metals and sizes

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. All gold is solid, never plated and never filled. White gold is rhodium finished. Yellow gold, shown here, makes the hidden halo read as a bright band of light against warm metal when the ring turns; in white gold the halo blends into the centre stone. Centre stone sizes run from 2 carat to 5 carat.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India. Every ring is made by our own team after you order. A hidden halo around a pear is harder than around a round, because the halo has to follow a shape with a point at one end and a curve at the other while staying an even height all the way round. Our setter builds and sets the halo before the centre stone goes in.

Care

Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale and takes daily wear well. Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, working from underneath so the brush reaches into the hidden halo, which is where residue collects out of sight. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Have the claws and the halo beads checked once a year.

Resizing

The shoulder accents stop well before the back of the shank, so this ring resizes comfortably by two sizes or more. The hidden halo sits in the head and is not affected.

Questions people ask

Is the centre stone a diamond? No. Every stone in this ring is moissanite, a gemstone in its own right, and we never describe it as a diamond.

Is a hidden halo worth the extra cost? Honestly, it depends how you look at your own hand. From above you will barely notice it. From the side, and to anyone looking at the ring across a table, it makes a real difference. If you mostly see your ring from above, save the money and take the plain basket version.

Does the hidden halo make the stone look bigger? Not from above, no. A visible halo does that; a hidden one does not. What it does is add light under the stone and give the head more presence in profile.

Which way does the pear point? Toward the fingertip as standard, which is what lengthens the finger. Tell us in the order notes if you want it the other way.

Can I wear a wedding band with it? Yes. The accents stop early and the back of the shank is plain, so a straight band meets bare metal. The head sits a little higher than the plain basket version, so there is a slightly larger gap under the stone.

Does the price change with carat size? Yes. The 2 carat is the base price and each larger size adds a small amount. The exact price appears when you select a combination.
