Pear Cut Moissanite Split Shank Milgrain Solitaire Engagement Ring

A pear cut moissanite set in six claws, with the shank splitting into two smooth polished arms that sweep out and away on either side of the stone. The split leaves an open window of skin visible beneath the setting, which is what makes the centre stone appear to float rather than sit on a band. A fine milgrain collar runs right around the base of the stone, the only decorative detail on an otherwise entirely plain ring.

There are no accent stones anywhere. The whole effect comes from the curve of the metal and the negative space it creates. From the top the two arms frame the pear; from the side they lift and taper into a clean open basket.

Why the point is protected

The tip of a pear is the most vulnerable part of the shape. Ours sits under a V shaped claw that wraps around it rather than a single prong resting on top. It is the difference between a point that survives a decade of daily wear and one that chips on a door frame in the first year, and it is not something we treat as optional.

How it compares to our other plain pear rings

Every design is listed separately. Our hand engraved scroll solitaire puts all its interest into a carved pattern on a solid shank. Our vintage leaf and vine ring adds tiny flush set moissanite to that carving. This one is the opposite approach: nothing carved, nothing set, just a shank that opens. If you want a completely smooth ring that still has a shape to it, this is the one in our pear range that does that.

Metals and sizes

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. All gold is solid, never plated and never filled. White gold is rhodium finished. With no stones and no texture on the band, the metal colour is the entire design here, so choose it as carefully as you would choose the stone. Centre stone sizes run from 2 carat to 5 carat.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India. Every ring is made by our own team after you order. A split shank is harder to finish than it looks: the two arms have to taper evenly and meet the gallery at exactly the same height, or the ring reads as crooked from above. Ours are filed and polished as a pair rather than separately.

Care

Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale and takes daily wear well. Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, working under the open gallery where dust settles. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. A high polish on a plain band picks up fine hairline scratches over the years, which is normal; we can repolish it any time.

Resizing

The back of the shank is solid and plain, so this ring resizes easily by two sizes or more in either direction. The split at the front is untouched by the work.

Questions people ask

Is the centre stone a diamond? No. It is moissanite, a gemstone in its own right, and we never describe it as a diamond.

Does the open split catch on things? Rarely. The arms are rounded and polished with no sharp edges, and the gap sits above the finger rather than to the side of it.

Which way does the pear point? Toward the fingertip as standard, which is what lengthens the finger. Tell us in the order notes if you want it the other way.

Can I wear a wedding band with it? Yes, and a plain straight band sits reasonably close because the split is above the finger, not beside it. There will still be a small gap under the point.

Does the price change with carat size? Yes. The 2 carat is the base price and each larger size adds a small amount. The exact price appears when you select a combination.
