Pear Cut Moissanite Slim Pave Hidden Halo Engagement Ring in Sterling Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

A pear cut moissanite in six claws on the slimmest band we make, with a short run of micropave along each shoulder and a hidden halo of small accents wrapped around the underside of the setting where only you can see it.

Why the thin band matters here

The band on this ring is deliberately narrow, close to 1.6 mm, and it tapers further as it approaches the head. A narrow band does one thing extremely well, which is make the centre stone look bigger. There is less metal beside the stone competing for attention, so the eye reads the pear as wider than it would on a 2.5 mm shank of the same finger size.

The pave does not run the full way round. It covers roughly the top third of the band and stops, leaving the bottom two thirds as plain polished metal. That keeps the ring comfortable, keeps the cost down and means the underside can be resized more easily than a fully set band.

The hidden halo

Underneath the pear, wrapped around the outside of the basket, is a ring of small accents set facing outwards. From directly above you cannot see them at all. From the side, and every time you turn your hand, they light the space under the stone and lift it visually off the finger.

It is worth being straightforward about this. A hidden halo does not make the ring look bigger from above. What it does is remove the plain metal that a side view would otherwise show, and give the setting a lit, floating look in profile and in photographs taken at an angle. Some people love it. Some people would rather have the plain, cleaner setting and spend the difference elsewhere, and that is a reasonable choice too.

How this compares with our other slim pear rings

Our Scalloped Pave Hidden Halo ring has the same hidden halo but the pave runs further round the band with scalloped edges, so it is brighter and heavier.

This one is the lightest ring in that group. Slimmest band, shortest run of pave, and the hidden halo kept as the single point of extra detail.

The stones

The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger.

The accents on the shoulders and in the hidden halo are round moissanite. Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, matched before setting.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. On a band this narrow a larger centre looks dramatic, and 3 carat and above is where this design gets the most attention.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in white gold, where the slim band nearly disappears against the skin and the stone appears to float. Yellow gold gives a warm line under the stone and makes the ring read as more traditional. Rose gold sits between the two. Silver gives the white look affordably. On a band this narrow we recommend 10K or 14K over 18K, because 18K is the softest of the three and a very slim shank in a soft alloy will show wear sooner. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set the shoulders and the hidden halo, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Give particular attention to the underside of the head, because a hidden halo sits exactly where hand cream and soap collect and it stops sparkling long before the top of the ring does. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes, better than most. The band is thin and the pave stops well before the bottom, so a flat band meets plain metal along most of its contact.

Is a band this thin strong enough? For normal daily wear, yes, in 10K or 14K. If your work is hard on your hands, tell us and we will make the shank slightly heavier at no extra cost.

Can it be resized? Yes, more easily than most set bands, because the bottom of the shank has no stones.

Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
