Pear Cut Moissanite Plain Band Hidden Halo Engagement Ring in Sterling Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

Look at this ring from directly overhead and it is a pear cut solitaire on a bare polished band. No pave, no shaping, no detail anywhere on the shank. It is the plainest setting in our pear range.

Turn your hand and a narrow band of small stones appears, set outward around the base of the setting. That is the whole ornament of the ring, and it only shows in profile.

We think this is the most interesting version of the hidden halo, precisely because the rest of the ring gives nothing away. On a pave band the hidden halo is one bright thing among several. Here it is the only bright thing that is not the centre stone, so when it catches the light it actually registers.

Why a plain band suits a pear

A pear is an asymmetric shape. It has a point at one end and a full curve at the other, and that outline is the reason people choose it. Anything on the shank competes with that outline for attention. A bare band lets the silhouette of the stone do all the work, and it also makes the pear look larger, because there is nothing beside it to give the eye a sense of scale.

The stones

The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger.

The hidden halo accents are round moissanite. Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, matched before setting.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. On a plain band the centre is the entire ring, so if you are between two sizes we would take the larger.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, where the warm plain band frames the stone cleanly and the hidden halo reads as a bright line against gold in profile. In white metal the band nearly vanishes and the whole ring becomes stone and light. Rose gold gives the softest look. Silver is the affordable route to the white version. 10K is the hardest gold, 14K the everyday balance, 18K the richest colour. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Made to order

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set the centre and the hidden halo, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.

Care

The band needs nothing but an occasional wipe. The hidden halo does need attention, because it sits in the exact spot where hand cream and soap collect, and a clogged hidden halo simply stops appearing. Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush worked under the head every few weeks. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes. This is one of the best rings we make for stacking, because the shank is plain all the way round and there is nothing on it for a band to rub against.

Can it be resized? Yes, easily. A plain shank is the simplest case there is.

Does a hidden halo make the stone look bigger? Not from above, and we would rather say so plainly. It lifts the setting and lights the profile. If your goal is apparent size, a visible halo does that and a hidden one does not.

Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
