Pear Cut Moissanite Pear Side Stone Three Stone Engagement Ring in Sterling Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

A pear cut moissanite in six claws with one small pear cut moissanite on each side, set so its point turns in toward the centre, on a plain slim band with nothing else on it.

The side stones are the same shape as the centre

That is the whole idea, and it is unusual. Most three stone rings pair the centre with a different shape, a round or a kite or a baguette, on the reasoning that contrast makes the centre stand out.

This ring does the opposite. Both side stones are pear cut, the same outline as the centre, just much smaller. Set with their points turned inward, the three teardrops form one continuous shape across the finger rather than three separate objects.

The effect is quieter than a contrasting three stone ring but more coherent. There is nothing on the ring that is not a pear, which gives it a settled, finished look that people who dislike busy jewellery tend to respond to.

How this compares with our other pear three stone rings

We make several and the difference between them is entirely in the shape and scale of the side stones.

This one sits between those two. The sides are small enough to stay subordinate but set high enough and angled so they read clearly as teardrops, not as anonymous specks. The band is completely plain, which is what keeps it from looking crowded.

Why a plain band matters here

With three stones on the top of the ring, pave on the shoulders would create a fourth thing to look at and the pear shapes would stop registering. The shank is left plain and slim on purpose, so all the detail is concentrated in the head and the outline of the stones is what you see.

It also makes this ring easy to resize, easy to clean, and comfortable to stack with a plain wedding band.

The stones

The centre and both side stones are pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. Pear is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and the point elongates the finger.

Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, matched before setting. On a ring where all three stones are the same shape, matching matters more than usual, because any difference in colour or brightness between them would be immediately visible.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat, with the side pears scaled to hold their proportion at every size.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, where the warm claws separate the three stones and each teardrop outline is easy to read. In white metal the three stones merge into a single bright shape, which is a good effect if you want the ring to look larger and a poor one if you specifically want to see three pears. Rose gold is the softest looking. Silver gives the white version affordably. 10K is the hardest gold, 14K the everyday balance, 18K the richest colour. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Made to order

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set all three pears, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.

Care

One of the easiest rings we make to keep clean, because there is no pave and no openwork. Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush around the claws and under the three settings. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Will a wedding band sit flush? Close to it. The side stones sit low and the shank is plain, so a flat band meets plain metal along nearly all of its contact. A very slight curve gives a perfect fit.

Can it be resized? Yes, easily. The whole lower shank is plain.

Are the points of the side stones protected? Yes. The inward facing point of each side pear sits under a claw, which is the vulnerable end on a pear cut.

Why not use bigger side stones? Some people want that, and our Large Pear Side ring does it. On this design the small sides are deliberate, because they keep the centre unmistakably the main stone.

Is the point of the centre pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
