Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%A pear cut moissanite held in a smooth polished bezel that follows the outline of the stone exactly, set as low as the stone allows, with a completely open back and a plain slender round band. There is no beading, no engraving and no accent stones anywhere.
We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.
A bezel is a continuous collar of metal that wraps the girdle of the stone. Because there are no claws to raise it, a bezel set stone can sit almost against the finger, and this design takes that as far as it will go.
What that means in practice is that the ring barely stands above your hand. It does not catch on gloves, pockets, hair or knitwear. It does not spin because the weight is low. It is the one design in our pear range we recommend without qualification for surgeons, nurses, cooks, climbers, gardeners, people who work with their hands, and anyone who has previously caught a claw ring on something and decided never again.
The back of the setting is left completely open. From underneath you can see straight through the stone, which lets light enter from below and keeps the ring from feeling heavy despite the solid rim.
We make two full bezel pear rings and this is the plainer one.
Our Milgrain Bezel ring has a rim edged with fine beading, which gives it an antique, Edwardian character.
This one is polished perfectly smooth. Nothing interrupts the line of the metal, so what you see is the outline of a teardrop drawn once in gold. It is a modern, quiet design and it photographs as a shape rather than as sparkle.
It is also the more practical of the two, because a smooth rim has nothing to collect residue and nothing to soften with wear.
Honestly, both good and bad.
It protects the stone completely. The girdle is the most vulnerable part of any gem and a bezel armours it entirely, and on a pear it protects the point, which is the single most fragile feature of the cut. Nothing we make is safer.
It also covers the outer edge of the stone, so a bezel set pear looks very slightly smaller than the same stone in claws. And because metal surrounds it, light enters mostly from the top rather than the sides, which makes the stone read as a clean bright shape rather than as scattered fire.
If maximum sparkle is your priority, choose one of our claw settings. If you want the shape, the protection and a ring you will never think about again, choose this.
The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger.
Every centre stone is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity. Bezel setting makes the outline of the stone the whole design, so we are particularly careful that the pear is symmetrical and its point is centred before it is set.
Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.
Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. Because the bezel outlines the stone, a larger centre makes a considerable difference to this design, and it carries big stones very comfortably.
Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, which is the strongest version because the warm rim draws the teardrop outline clearly against the colourless stone. In white gold or silver the rim recedes and the ring becomes almost invisible metal around light. Rose gold is the softest. 10K is the hardest gold and the most resistant to knocks, 14K is the everyday balance, 18K is the richest but softest. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.
Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, fit the bezel precisely to your chosen stone, set it, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations. A bezel has to be made to the individual stone rather than to a standard size, which is why this apparently simple ring is skilled work.
The easiest ring in our range. Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, with attention to the open back where the underside of the stone can film over. There is no pave, no beading and no engraving to clog. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach, though this design will forgive more than most.
Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes, and this is one of the best rings we make for it. The bezel sits low and the shank is plain, so a flat band meets it cleanly on both sides.
Can it be resized? Yes, easily. The shank is completely plain.
Will it catch on things? No. That is the whole point of the design.
Does the bezel make the stone look smaller? Slightly, and we would rather say so than have you surprised. The rim covers the outermost edge. What you gain is complete protection of the girdle and the point.
Is the point of the pear protected? Better than in any other setting we make. The bezel wraps right around it, so there is no exposed point at all.
