A pear cut moissanite in six ball tipped claws on a very slender band scattered with individually claw set round accents in two markedly different sizes, a substantial round then a tiny one then another substantial round, with wide runs of bare polished metal between them.

We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.

Big and small, with real gaps

The accents on this ring are not evenly matched and they are not evenly spaced, and both of those things are deliberate.

The larger accents are big enough to be looked at as individual stones. Between and beyond them sit much smaller points, and between all of them runs plain polished metal. Because the sizes differ so much, your eye reads a rhythm rather than a row, and because the gaps are wide the whole shoulder never resolves into a continuous line the way pave does.

Each stone sits in its own claws, raised slightly above the surface of the band, which is what lets the larger accents catch light from the side and flash independently.

How this compares with our other spaced accent pear rings

We make several rings with separated accents and they differ in ways worth knowing.

Our Spaced Accent Constellation ring uses four evenly spaced rounds per side in two closer sizes, so the effect is regular and even, like a row of stars.

Our Claw Set Marquise and Round ring alternates marquise with round, so the shapes differ as well as the sizes.

Our Bezel Set Marquise and Round ring encloses each accent in a smooth bezel instead of claws.

This ring has the biggest size difference between its accents and the widest bare gaps of any of them. If you liked the idea of spaced stones but found the even versions too regular, this is the one with the most contrast and the most metal showing.

Why the band is so thin

The shank on this design is deliberately narrow, and the reason is proportion. With gaps of bare metal between accents, a wide band would show a great deal of blank surface and the accents would look stranded. A narrow band keeps the metal in scale with the stones, so the gaps read as breathing space rather than as emptiness.

It also makes the centre look larger, because there is less metal beside it competing for attention.

The stones

The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger.

The accents are round moissanite in two distinct sizes. Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, matched before setting.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat, with the accents scaled so the rhythm along the shoulder holds at every size.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, which is the right choice for this design because the whole effect depends on seeing metal between the stones, and warm metal makes those gaps read as part of the pattern. In white metal the gaps close visually and the ring reads much closer to an ordinary pave band, which loses the point. Rose gold sits between. Silver gives the white effect affordably. 10K is the hardest gold and holds small individual settings best, 14K is the everyday balance, 18K is the richest colour. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Made to order

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set each accent individually in its own claws, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.

Care

One of the easier set rings to clean, because every stone stands separately and a brush reaches right round each one. Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Will a wedding band sit flush? Not perfectly. The individual settings stand slightly proud, so a flat band touches claws rather than metal. The lower part of the shank is bare, so wearing the band below the ring works well.

Can it be resized? Yes. The bottom of the shank has no stones.

Is a band this thin strong enough? For normal daily wear, yes, particularly in 10K or 14K. If your work is hard on your hands, tell us and we will make the shank slightly heavier at no extra cost.

Do individually set stones come loose more easily than pave? Each is held by its own claws, which is a strong setting, but the claws are exposed. Have them checked every couple of years.

Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
