Pear Cut Moissanite Cluster Side Full Pave Engagement Ring in Sterling Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

A pear cut moissanite in six ball tipped claws with a small cluster of accents on each side, a larger pear shaped stone flanked by rounds, running into micropave that continues the full length of both shoulders, with a fine rope of milgrain beading worked along the inner edge of the band.

Three levels of stone, not two

Most side stone rings step from a big centre straight down to small accents. This one uses three sizes. The centre, then a noticeably larger pear shaped accent immediately beside it, then rounds that reduce as they run down the shoulder into continuous pave.

That middle size is what makes the ring work. It fills the gap next to the centre so there is no bare metal between the pear and the pave, and because the accent repeats the pear shape it echoes the centre instead of contrasting with it. The eye reads a continuous flow of stone from the tip of one shoulder to the tip of the other.

This is the most stone covered pear ring we make, and it is the one to choose if you want maximum brightness across the whole finger rather than one bright point.

The rope edge you only see up close

Along the inner edge of the band, where the metal turns toward your finger, runs a fine twisted rope of milgrain. It is not visible from directly above and it is barely visible in photographs. It shows when someone picks the ring up.

We include it because a fully pave band can look machine made from the side, and a worked edge is the simplest thing that says otherwise. It costs bench time and adds nothing to the sparkle, which is exactly why it reads as a detail rather than a feature.

How this compares with our other heavily set pear rings

Our Three Sided Pave ring sets the top face and both side faces of the shank, so it is the brightest band we make but has no side stones at all beside the centre.

Our Scattered Cluster ring groups small stones loosely at the shoulders with plain metal between the groups.

Our Graduated Round Side ring uses two rounds per shoulder on a plain engraved band.

This ring is the only one that combines cluster side stones with full length pave, and the only one with the rope milgrain edge. If you compared it with the Three Sided Pave ring, the difference is where the light sits: that ring puts it all in the band, this one carries it right up beside the centre stone.

The stones

The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger.

The accents are pear and round moissanite in graduated sizes. Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, matched before setting.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat, with the clusters and pave scaled so the graduation stays smooth at every size.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in rose gold, which is an unusual and very flattering choice for a heavily set ring, because the warm pink metal keeps a band this bright from looking cold. In white gold or silver the whole ring becomes one continuous line of light with the metal nearly invisible, which is the most dramatic version. Yellow gold gives the strongest contrast between metal and stone. 10K is the hardest gold and holds a lot of small settings best, 14K is the everyday balance, 18K is the richest but softest. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Made to order

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set the clusters, set the pave, work the rope edge, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations. This ring holds more stones than anything else in our pear range and takes correspondingly longer at the bench.

Care

A ring with this many settings needs cleaning more often than a plain one, because every seat is somewhere hand cream can sit. Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, worked across the pave and around each cluster stone. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Will a wedding band sit flush? Along most of its length, yes, because the shank stays a regular width. The cluster stones sit slightly proud right beside the centre, so a band pushed hard against the head will touch them. Most people wear the band below the ring, where the pave is flat.

Can it be resized? Only a little. Pave runs a long way down both shoulders, which leaves a short section of plain metal at the bottom to work with. Please get the size right, and write to us if you are unsure.

Do the small stones fall out? Properly set pave does not, but a ring carrying this many stones has more settings that can be knocked than a plain band. Have it checked every couple of years.

Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
