Two pear cut accents sit against the girdle on each side, tips together and bodies apart, so they read as a pair of leaves opening from the stone. Further along the shoulder the metal forms a pointed leaf outlined in milgrain, with a round accent set inside it.

The band itself twists. Two strands wind past each other and carry the leaves along their length, with fine beading running down the edge of the vine.

How it compares

Our twisted vine marquise leaf emerald ring uses marquise stones as the leaves and leaves the metal plain. This one makes the leaves out of metal, outlines them in beading and sets a stone inside each, and adds a pair of pears right against the centre stone. It is the more decorated of the two and reads as antique rather than modern botanical.

Why an emerald cut

A step cut is a rectangle, which is the least organic shape there is. Setting one inside leaves and a vine is a deliberate contrast, and it stops a nature design from looking soft.

Wearing and stacking

The vine is uneven by design, so a straight wedding band will touch it at the high points only. A contoured band or a plain band worn on the other side of the finger suits it better.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. The leaves are shaped and beaded before the stones go in, and the paired pears at the girdle have to be angled so their tips almost meet without touching. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 16 to 20 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Work the brush along the vine and around the leaf outlines. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, which soften milgrain over time.

Yes. Each pear point faces inward toward the centre stone and sits under its own claw, which is the safest place for it.
