Emerald Cut Moissanite Milgrain Halo Vintage Openwork Engagement Ring

An emerald cut moissanite framed by a rectangular halo of fine pave, with milgrain beading run along both the inner and the outer edge of the frame. The halo follows the corners of the centre stone exactly rather than rounding them off, so the outline stays angular and the whole head reads as one larger emerald cut.

Under the halo the ring opens into scrolled openwork, with pave carried down through the arches and out along both shoulders. Every edge of that work is beaded as well. It is the most thoroughly decorated halo we make, and almost all of the detail is antique in origin rather than modern.

How it compares to our other halo emerald cut rings

Every design is listed separately. Our shared claw halo uses fewer, larger stones with air between them. Our sunburst halo angles its accents outwards. Our rectangular halo with a twisted shank keeps the frame plain edged and puts the interest in the band. This one is the vintage member of the group: milgrain on both sides of the halo, scrollwork under the head, and beading along the shoulders too. If the others look too modern to you, this is the one to choose.

Metals and sizes

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. All gold is solid, never plated and never filled. White gold is rhodium finished, shown here, and it is the finish that shows milgrain most crisply. Yellow and rose gold soften the same beading into something warmer. Centre stone sizes run from 2 carat to 5 carat.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India. Every ring is made by our own team after you order. This design carries more hand beading than anything else in our emerald cut range, all of it cut with a knurling wheel after the stones are set. It takes longer than any other ring we list here. Care

Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale and takes daily wear well. Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. There is a lot of texture and openwork on this ring, so work the brush from underneath as well as on top and rinse thoroughly. Dry with a soft cloth and have the pave checked once a year.

Resizing

The lower half of the band is plain, so this ring resizes by one to two sizes. Beyond that the pave and beading would need reworking. Contact us before ordering if you are unsure of the finger size and we will help you measure.

Questions people ask

Is the centre stone a diamond? No. Every stone in this ring is moissanite, a gemstone in its own right, and we never describe it as a diamond.

Does the halo make the stone look bigger? Yes, noticeably. Because the frame follows the corners rather than rounding them, the whole head reads as a single larger rectangle.

Will the milgrain wear down? Over many years of hard wear the beads soften. That is how antique rings age, and a jeweller can recut the beading if you ever want it sharp again.

Can I wear a wedding band with it? A straight band meets the plain back. At the front the halo sits proud of the shank, so a contoured band fits closer if you want them to touch.

Does the price change with carat size? Yes. The 2 carat is the base price and each larger size adds a small amount. The exact price appears when you select a combination.
