Emerald Cut Moissanite Rope Twist Plain Band Engagement Ring

An emerald cut moissanite in four claws on a band of two thick strands wound around each other like rope. Both strands are left completely plain and polished to a mirror. There are no accent stones anywhere on this ring, and no milgrain, engraving or texture of any kind. The interest is entirely in the shape.

What you get instead of sparkle is movement. The two strands cross and recross the whole way round the finger, so the highlight travels along the band as your hand turns, and the ring throws long curved reflections rather than points of light. At about 3.5 mm across the pair it has real weight to it.

Our prices are based on a band up to 2 mm wide. The twisted pair measures about 3.5 mm, so it carries a width supplement of 50 US dollars in sterling silver and 200 US dollars in gold. That supplement is already included in the prices shown and is not added at checkout.

How it compares to our other plain band emerald cut rings

Every design is listed separately. Our plain band hidden halo hides a ring of accents beneath the stone and keeps the shank a smooth round wire. Our wide cigar band is a single flat 6 mm strip. Our hand engraved solitaire cuts a leaf pattern into a slim shank. This is the only one built from two strands, and the only one whose entire character comes from the way the metal is formed rather than from anything added to it.

Metals and sizes

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. All gold is solid, never plated and never filled. White gold is rhodium finished. Yellow gold is shown here. With no stones on the band at all, the metal is the whole design, so the colour matters more on this ring than on almost anything else we make. Centre stone sizes run from 2 carat to 5 carat.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India. Every ring is made by our own team after you order. Both strands are drawn, wound together and then polished as one piece, which is what keeps the twist even; a twist that has been polished strand by strand never looks quite right. If you would like a tighter or looser twist, tell us in the order notes before we begin.

Care

Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale and takes daily wear well. Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, working into the groove where the strands cross. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. With no pave and no claws on the band there is nothing to loosen, so this is one of the most robust designs in our range. A high polish does pick up fine scratches over the years; we can repolish it any time.

Resizing

The twist runs the entire circumference, so there is no plain section to work with. This ring can be adjusted by roughly one size at most, and beyond that it would need remaking. Contact us before ordering if you are unsure of your finger size and we will help you measure.

Questions people ask

Is the centre stone a diamond? No. It is moissanite, a gemstone in its own right, and we never describe it as a diamond.

Is this just the cheaper version of the pave one? It is cheaper, but that is not really the point. A plain twist and a set twist look quite different on the hand; one is about form, the other about light. Buy the one you actually prefer, not the one that costs less.

Will the twist wear smooth over time? Very slowly, and only on the outermost high points. It takes decades and most people find it improves the look.

Can I wear a wedding band with it? A straight band will not sit flush against a twist, as there are small gaps where the strands rise and fall. A contoured band, or wearing this ring alone, works better.

Does the price change with carat size? Yes. The 2 carat is the base price and each larger size adds a small amount. The exact price appears when you select a combination.
