An emerald cut moissanite in four claws on a slim band whose only decoration is engraved into the metal. A leaf and vine pattern is cut along both shoulders, and the same motif appears on the small collar under the head. There are no accent stones anywhere on this ring. Everything you see beyond the centre stone is metal that has been carved away.

Engraving behaves differently to pave. It does not sparkle. It catches light along the cut edges and casts fine shadows in the recesses, so the pattern comes and goes as the hand moves and disappears altogether at some angles. It is a quieter kind of decoration and an older one, and it suits people who want detail without any additional stones.

Metals and sizes

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. All gold is solid, never plated and never filled. White gold is rhodium finished, shown here. Engraving reads most clearly in yellow gold, where the shadow inside each cut is warmest, but it is legible in all three colours. Centre stone sizes run from 2 carat to 5 carat.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India. Every ring is made by our own team after you order, and the engraving is cut by hand with a graver rather than machined. That means no two rings carry an identical pattern, and the lines have the slight variation that hand work always leaves. If you would like a different motif engraved, or a plain band with no engraving, tell us in the order notes before we begin.

Care

Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale and takes daily wear well. Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, working along the engraved lines so nothing builds up inside them. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Hand engraving does soften over decades of wear as the high points polish down. A jeweller can recut it, and many people prefer the worn look.

Resizing

The back of the band is plain, so this ring resizes by one to two sizes without touching the engraving. A larger change would stretch the pattern, so tell us if you expect to need one. Contact us before ordering if you are unsure of the finger size and we will help you measure.

Questions people ask

Is the centre stone a diamond? No. It is moissanite, a gemstone in its own right, and we never describe it as a diamond.

Is the engraving machine cut? No. It is cut by hand with a graver. Machine engraving is perfectly regular; hand engraving is not, and that is how you tell them apart.

Will the pattern wear off? Not off, but it does soften over many years as the raised edges polish down. It can be recut whenever you want it sharp again.

Can I wear a wedding band with it? Yes, easily. Nothing on this ring stands proud, so a straight band sits flush on either side.

Does the price change with carat size? Yes. The 2 carat is the base price and each larger size adds a small amount. The exact price appears when you select a combination.
