A leaf and vine pattern is cut into both shoulders, and small round accents are dropped into the engraving in rub over bezels, as though they were buds on the vine. A second line of tiny bezels runs along the top edge of the band above the pattern.

The stones sit flush inside their bezels rather than standing up in claws, so the band stays smooth to the touch and the sparkle appears as points of light inside the metalwork instead of on top of it.

How it compares

Our other engraved emerald rings carry the pattern alone. This is the only one with stones set inside the engraving. The difference is easiest to see in daylight: the plain engraved rings show only the shape of the metal, while this one throws small flashes from the middle of the pattern as your hand moves.

Why an emerald cut

A large step cut gives the engraving something calm to sit beside. If the centre stone sparkled as hard as the accents do, the vine would disappear into the noise.

Wearing and stacking

Everything on the band is flush, so nothing catches and a wedding band sits against it without wearing the pattern down.

Made to order in Surat, India

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. The vine is engraved first, then each accent seat is drilled into the pattern and the bezel is pushed over by hand. Setting into engraving is slower than setting into plain metal because there is no room for error either side. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 16 to 20 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. The engraving holds soap, so rinse well. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners.

Yes, more so than claws at this size. Each stone is held all the way round and sits below the surface of the metal.
