Emerald Cut Moissanite Engraved Milgrain Pave Shoulder Engagement Ring

Three separate pieces of hand work go into each shoulder of this ring. A short row of small round accents is bead set into a channel; a line of milgrain beading runs along both edges of that channel; and beyond the last stone the metal carries on as engraved scrollwork, cut into the band rather than raised on it.

It is an antique way of building a ring. Nothing about it is machine finished, and the result looks closer to an Edwardian piece than a modern one.

How it compares

Our French pave band runs stones further round on a plain modern shank. Our engraved scroll rings have no stones on the band at all. This ring is the only one in the emerald range that puts pave, milgrain and engraving on the same shoulder, which is why it reads as genuinely antique rather than simply decorated.

Why an emerald cut

The emerald cut was the shape of the Art Deco period, and the step facets suit a band that is itself made of straight cut lines. A round brilliant over engraving tends to look like two eras stacked on top of each other.

Wearing and stacking

The band is squared in profile, so a flat wedding band matches it edge to edge. Take care that a stacked band does not rub against the milgrain, since fine beading wears faster than plain metal.

Made to order in Surat, India

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. Milgrain is cut with a hand wheel run along the edge of the metal, one pass, no second chances. The engraving is cut with a graver afterwards. Neither can be cast in. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 18 to 22 working days for this design.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Brush gently along the milgrain rather than across it. Rinse and dry by patting with a lint free cloth so nothing catches on the beading.

How many accent stones are there
Ten, five to each shoulder.

Is the engraving really cut by hand
Yes. The scroll is cut with a graver after casting. Cast in patterns look soft at the edges; cut ones hold a sharp line and catch light differently.

Will the milgrain wear down
Slowly, over many years of daily wear, as it does on genuine antique rings. We can recut it if you ever want it sharpened.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, by one size in either direction. The engraving runs most of the way round, so beyond that the pattern would be interrupted.

Is moissanite hard enough for daily wear
Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.

Which finger sizes are available
