An emerald cut moissanite in four broad rounded claws, with marquise and round accents alternating down each shoulder and a hidden halo tucked around the base of the stone. Every setting on the ring, including the hidden halo, is finished with fine beaded milgrain along its edge, which is what gives the whole piece its antique character.

The accents run about three quarters of the way round and then stop, leaving the back of the band plain and smooth. That is a practical decision as much as a stylistic one: it keeps the part that sits against the finger comfortable and makes the ring straightforward to resize later.

We list every design separately. Our milgrain marquise eternity ring runs the same alternating marquise and round pattern all the way round the finger in scalloped frames, and it has no hidden halo, which means it cannot be resized. This one sits between them: the alternating pattern stops at the shoulders, it adds a milgrain edged hidden halo under the centre stone, and because the back is plain it resizes normally. Metals and sizes

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. All gold is solid, not plated and not filled. White gold is rhodium finished. Milgrain reads best in yellow and rose gold, as photographed, where each bead picks up a warm highlight around the settings. Centre stone sizes run from 2 carat to 5 carat, with the hidden halo and shoulder accents scaled to match.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India. Every ring is made by our own team once you order. The milgrain here is applied by hand with a small wheel, bead by bead around each individual setting, which is slow work and the reason this design carries a longer lead time. If you would like the pattern carried further round, the hidden halo omitted, or plain settings without milgrain, tell us in the order notes before we begin.

Care

Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale and holds up to daily wear. Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, brushing along the milgrain rather than across it and reaching under the head where the hidden halo sits. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Milgrain softens gradually over many years of heavy wear, which most people consider part of its charm; we can re-cut it if you ever want it sharpened.

Resizing

The back of the band is plain, so this ring resizes by one to two sizes without disturbing the accents or the milgrain. Contact us before ordering if you are unsure of the finger size and we will help you measure.

Questions people ask

Is the centre stone a diamond? No. Every stone in this ring is moissanite, a gemstone in its own right. We do not describe it as a diamond.

What is milgrain? A row of tiny metal beads worked along an edge with a small wheel. It softens the line between metal and stone and is a signature of antique and art deco jewellery.

Can you see the hidden halo? Not from directly above. It shows when the hand turns or when the ring is seen in profile.

Can I wear a wedding band with it? Yes. The plain back means a straight band sits close, though the shoulder settings sit slightly proud, so a contoured band gives the flushest fit at the front.

Does the price change with carat size? Yes. The 2 carat is the base price and each larger size adds a small amount. The exact price appears when you select a combination.
