Emerald Cut Moissanite Vintage Milgrain Double Row Pave Engagement Ring

An emerald cut moissanite held in four slim claws above a shank that carries two separate rows of round pave along each shoulder. The two rows sit on the sloping faces of a lightly tapered band, so from the top you see them side by side and from the side they follow the curve down towards the finger. Every edge of the band and every row of stones is finished with milgrain, the fine beaded border that gives antique jewellery its softened outline.

Look at the head from the side and you will find scrolled openwork in the gallery with a further line of small accents worked into it. The pave runs about two thirds of the way round and then the band finishes as a plain polished wire at the back, which keeps the ring comfortable and makes it easier to size.

Metals and sizes

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. All gold is solid, never plated and never filled. White gold is rhodium finished, which is how it is photographed here and the finish that suits milgrain best because the beading catches a crisp white light. Yellow and rose gold soften the same detail into a warmer antique tone. Centre stone sizes run from 2 carat to 5 carat.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India. Nothing is bought in finished. The milgrain on this ring is cut by hand with a knurling wheel after the stones are set, which is why the beading follows the curve of the band so closely. If you would prefer a single row instead of two, or the milgrain left off entirely, tell us in the order notes before we begin.

Care

Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale and holds up to daily wear. Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Milgrain collects a little more lotion and soap than a plain edge does, so work the brush gently along the beaded borders and rinse well. Dry with a soft cloth. Have the pave checked once a year.

Resizing

The back of the band is plain, so this ring can be resized by one to two sizes without touching the pave or the milgrain. Contact us before ordering if you are unsure of the finger size and we will help you measure.

Questions people ask

Is the centre stone a diamond? No. Every stone in this ring is moissanite, a gemstone in its own right, and we describe it as nothing else.

What exactly is milgrain? A row of tiny metal beads worked along an edge. It was standard on Edwardian and Art Deco rings and it is what makes this design read as antique rather than modern.

Will the milgrain wear away? Over many years of hard wear the beads soften slightly. It is a normal part of how antique style rings age, and a jeweller can sharpen the beading again if you ever want it crisp.

Can I wear a wedding band with it? Yes. A straight milgrain band sits neatly beside it. Because the shank tapers, a plain band will meet it flush at the back.

Does the price change with carat size? Yes. The 2 carat is the base price and each larger size adds a small amount. The exact price appears when you select a combination.
