Why this ring works

A split shank does two things at once. It widens the visual footprint at the shoulders so the ring does not look thin next to a large stone, and the open window between the strands lets light through the shoulders, which keeps that extra width from reading as heavy. Adding milgrain around the basket then softens the join between the geometric stone and the rounded metal. Setting and band

Four claw prongs hold the corners of the emerald cut in a four sided basket whose upper edge is finished with milgrain beading on all four sides. The shank divides into two rounded strands at each shoulder, opening a narrow oval window before the strands rejoin at the head, and returns to a single rounded band at the back. Combined width at the split is approximately two millimetres. Metal is solid throughout with a polished interior.

Metal options

Choose from recycled 925 sterling silver, or solid 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. Yellow gold, as photographed, makes the split read clearly because the shadow inside the open window contrasts against the warm metal. Rose gold does the same more gently. White gold and sterling silver give a cooler, more contemporary line. White gold is rhodium finished.

Ring sizing

Every ring is made to order in your size. Sizes run from 3 to 13, including half sizes. The single band at the back of the shank allows minor adjustment later, but ordering the correct size from the start keeps the split symmetrical on your finger. Care

The open windows either side of the head collect lint and soap film, and milgrain beading holds it too. Clean every few weeks with warm water, mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush, working the brush through both windows and around the milgrain edge. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.
