Moissanite Round vs Emerald Cut: The Most Fire vs the Least
If you're choosing a moissanite by how much sparkle you want, these two are the ends of the scale.

Short answer
A round moissanite shows the most fire of any shape; an emerald cut shows the least. Choose round for maximum sparkle, no corners and an easy straight band. Choose emerald for a longer, calmer, more diamond-like look at large sizes โ about 7.0 ร 5.0 mm at 1 ct DEW against a round's 6.5 mm โ knowing a step cut shows cutting quality and tint plainly.
Most shape comparisons weigh similar stones against each other. This one does the opposite. A round brilliant is designed to split light into as much sparkle and colour as possible. An emerald is a step cut โ long, flat, parallel facets that return light in broad mirror-like flashes. In diamond, that is a question of style. In moissanite, with a dispersion of 0.104 against diamond's 0.044, it is also a question of how colourful your ring will be every day.

Fire: the whole reason to compare them
In a round brilliant, many small, steep facets bounce light around and split it into colour in every direction. That is why a round moissanite throws the most rainbow of any shape โ and why that rainbow grows as the stone gets larger, because colour needs depth to separate. At 1 ct it reads as lively sparkle; at 3 ct it is unmistakably colourful.
An emerald's long, flat facets send light back in broad sheets, so much of that colour never separates. Even at 3 or 4 ct an emerald moissanite reads as calm, glassy flashes. That makes it the shape to choose if you want a big moissanite that does not look like a disco ball โ and the round the shape to choose if the colour is exactly what you love. What each shape reveals
A round's busy sparkle camouflages small inclusions, faint tint and tiny cutting variations. An emerald hides none of them: it is a window, and you look straight into it. No laboratory grades moissanite, so there is no grade to rely on. On an emerald, check that the facet lines run parallel and the steps are evenly spaced, and look for any faint warmth, which a step cut shows more readily. On a round, check a rotating video for even sparkle with no permanently dark zone.

Moissanite is not a diamond, and we never describe it as one. But many buyers want a moissanite that does not draw attention to what it is. For them, the shape matters more than any other choice. A large round moissanite is the most recognisable combination, because its extra fire is visible across a room. A large emerald cut is the least, because step facets hold that fire back.
Below about 3 mm โ in bands and pavรฉ โ the question disappears, because small stones have too little depth for colour to separate in any shape. It is only in a centre stone that the round-versus-emerald choice changes how the ring reads.
Wear and the wedding band
Both are Mohs 9.25. The round has no corners; the emerald's four corners are cropped rather than sharp, but each should still sit under a prong. For the band, the round usually takes a straight band flush, while the emerald's length often calls for a contour band or a slightly spaced straight one. Check the side view of the design before the ring is made.
