A tapered baguette lies along each shoulder, wide end against the centre stone and narrow end pointing away down the band. Because the taper follows the line of the shoulder, the head looks longer than the centre stone alone and the eye is carried outward rather than stopped.

The band behind them is plain and rounded. Every stone in the ring is a step cut, so the whole head flashes in the same slow way rather than mixing sparkle with fire.

How it compares

Our emerald cut three stone ring with rectangular side stones keeps the sides parallel, so the head reads as a solid block. The taper here does the opposite. It narrows as it goes, which makes the finger look longer and makes the centre stone look wider by contrast. If you want the three stone look without the weight, this is the lighter of the two.

Why an emerald cut

Step cuts show the stone rather than the sparkle, and tapered baguettes are the oldest partner for them. This pairing is the backbone of 1920s and 1930s ring design and it still looks modern because there is nothing fussy about it.

Wearing and stacking

The baguettes sit low and flush, so a straight wedding band lies against the ring without a gap. In the last photograph the ring is styled with two eternity bands. Those are shown for styling only and are not included.

Tapered baguettes have to be matched as a pair for length, taper angle and depth of step, because a mismatch of even a fraction of a millimetre is visible when they sit either side of the centre stone. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 12 to 16 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Pay attention to the bar settings at the ends of the baguettes, where dust collects. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

Questions buyers ask

What size are the side stones
They are scaled to the centre. On a 2 carat centre each baguette is roughly 0.20 carat, and they grow with the centre stone so the proportion holds.

Are bar set baguettes secure
Yes. A bar holds the stone along its whole end rather than at a point, which suits a straight edged stone better than claws do.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, by one to two sizes. The back of the band carries no stones.

Is moissanite hard enough for daily wear
Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.

Which finger sizes are available
