A narrow collar of tiny accents runs right around the ring beneath the head, set into its own band of metal rather than into the basket. It sits a little below the centre stone with a gap of clear metal between the two, which is what makes it read as a separate ring of light rather than as a halo around the stone.

How it compares

Our other hidden halo emerald sets its accents tight against the girdle of the centre stone, so the two read as one piece. This one holds the collar lower and leaves a band of plain metal between, so from the side you see the stone, then metal, then a line of light. It is the more architectural of the two.

Wearing and stacking

Because the collar lifts the head slightly, a wedding band tucks in underneath without touching the centre stone. That is the practical reason this style exists.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. The collar is made and set as a separate ring, then soldered between the head and the shoulders, which is the only way to keep the gap even the whole way round. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 10 to 14 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. The gap between the collar and the basket traps more than a tight hidden halo does, so work the brush through it from both sides. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.
