From directly above this is a plain solitaire. Nothing but the emerald cut and a smooth round band. Tilt it and a row of tiny accents appears, set into the outside of the basket where they sit under the girdle of the centre stone and are invisible from the top.

The four claws cross over each other before running into the shank, which is what lets the head sit so low. The whole setting is barely taller than the stone itself.

Why an emerald cut

An emerald cut shows the stone rather than the sparkle. Broad flat facets step down toward the table and give long flashes of light instead of the scattered fire of a brilliant cut. The hidden halo adds the brightness a step cut does not produce on its own, without putting anything in front of the stone.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. The hidden halo is set before the head is joined to the shank, because once the claws are in place there is no room to reach the seats. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 10 to 14 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Tilt the ring and brush the outside of the basket where the hidden stones sit. It is the one place on this ring that collects anything. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.
