A continuous wall of metal wraps the whole outline of the stone, with the corners cut at the same angle as the emerald cut itself, so the bezel repeats the shape rather than rounding it off. The rim stands only slightly above the table.

The band is 4 mm and flat, and it meets the bezel without a step, so from the side the ring reads as one piece of metal with a window cut into it. Underneath, the metal opens into a V so light still reaches the stone from below.

How it compares

Our wide flat band low set emerald ring holds the same stone on the same band with four slim claws, so you see more of the stone and a little more sparkle at the edges. This one trades that for protection and a harder outline. The bezel hides the girdle completely, which makes the stone read slightly smaller but far more graphic.

The bezel is formed around the stone and then the corners are cut in by hand to match the stone's own corners, since a bezel with rounded corners on a square stone always looks wrong. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 12 to 16 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Run the brush around the join between the bezel and the stone, where a fine line of soap can dry. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

Is a bezel the most secure setting
Yes. The stone is held along its entire edge rather than at four points, and there is nothing standing proud to be knocked out of place.

Does a bezel make the stone look smaller
Slightly, because the rim covers the girdle. A 3 carat stone in a bezel reads about like a 2.7 carat stone in claws. Many people go one carat size up for that reason.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, by one to two sizes, though a wide band takes longer to resize cleanly than a narrow one.

Is moissanite hard enough for daily wear
Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.
