Two strands run along each shoulder and cross over one another twice before reaching the centre stone. One strand is plain polished metal; the other is pave set with round accents and edged on both sides with milgrain beading.

Because the two strands are different, the twist reads clearly from any angle. Where they cross, the plain strand passes over the top and the pave dips beneath it, leaving a small leaf shaped opening.

How it compares

Our milgrain pave crossover ring lets the two strands meet once and then tapers the pave away. This one crosses twice on each side and carries the stones the full length of the shoulder, so there is roughly twice as much sparkle on the band. The plain twisted rope ring is the same shape with no stones at all. Between the three, this is the middle option: decorated but not dense.

Why an emerald cut

A twisting band draws the eye along its length. A step cut centre stops it, because the table is one large uninterrupted plane. The ring reads as movement leading to stillness, which is why this pairing works better than a brilliant cut here.

Wearing and stacking

The strands rejoin behind the finger, so a wedding band sits flat against a smooth surface at the back. Along the shoulders the twist means a straight band will not lie flush.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. The pave has to be set while the strand is still straight, before it is wound, or the stones sit at inconsistent angles. Milgrain goes on last, cut with a hand wheel along both edges. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 18 to 22 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Follow the groove between the two strands. Rinse and dry by patting with a lint free cloth so the milgrain does not catch.
