Every accent in this halo is held in its own set of round tipped claws rather than bead set in a channel. The claws stand slightly proud on the outside edge, so the halo has a scalloped crown outline instead of a smooth one, and the stones themselves graduate in size around the frame.

The band behind the head is completely plain, which is deliberate. All the work is at the top.

How it compares

Our large shared claw halo runs its stones together with claws shared between neighbours, which reads smooth and modern. This one gives every stone its own claws. You see the metal beads all round the outside, the light breaks up more, and the whole head has the look of a mid century cluster ring rather than a contemporary halo. It is also the only halo in our emerald range on a completely plain band.

Why an emerald cut

A cluster of round brilliants throws a lot of small flashes. The long flat table of a step cut is the still point in the middle that keeps the design from becoming just a pool of sparkle.

Wearing and stacking

The plain band means a wedding ring meets the shank cleanly. The halo is wide, so expect a small gap under the head unless you choose a contoured band.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. Individual claw setting takes several times longer than pave, because each stone needs its own seat cut and its own claws raised and rounded. It is also more secure, and easier to repair if one stone is ever damaged. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 16 to 20 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. The gaps between claws collect more than a bead set halo does, so brush right round the outside edge. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

Because the outline of an emerald cut is not a circle. Graduating the stones keeps the halo an even width all the way round instead of bunching at the corners.

Can this ring be resized

Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.
