Each shoulder carries a Celtic trinity knot worked in openwork metal, with a single round accent claw set just outside it and a run of smaller bead set rounds continuing along the band beyond that.

The knot is pierced right through, so you can see daylight in the loops. The accent beside it is noticeably larger than the pave that follows, which gives each shoulder a clear focal point rather than an even line of stones.

About the trinity knot

The triquetra is drawn as one unbroken line looped into three points and appears in Irish manuscript work from the eighth century onward. Because the line has no beginning and no end, it has long been used on rings for the same reason a plain band is.

Why an emerald cut

A knot is geometry drawn in straight and curved lines, and step cut facets are the same. A round brilliant beside a triquetra tends to fight it; a rectangle sits with it.

Wearing and stacking

The knots stand slightly proud at the shoulders. A straight wedding band meets the shank at the back and leaves a small gap under the knot. A contoured band follows the shape more closely.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. The knot is pierced and filed so the strands genuinely pass over and under one another, then the stones go in around it. A knot that is only carved on the surface looks wrong from the side, so we do not cast the pattern in. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 18 to 22 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Work the brush through the openings of the knot from both sides, then along the pave. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.
