The band does not run straight into the stone. It rises on each side into an arch, the way a cathedral vault does, and the four claws grow out of the top of those arches. The result is an open space under the stone that lets light in from below and gives the ring its height without adding bulk.

Everything else is left plain. No stones on the band, no engraving, no milgrain.

How it compares

Our other plain emerald solitaires either sit the stone low in a bezel or lift it on a basket. A cathedral does something different: the metal supporting the stone is part of the outline you see from the side, so the ring has a shape of its own rather than just a stone on a band. It also holds the stone slightly higher, which suits a wedding band sitting flush underneath.

Why an emerald cut

The arch is a straight edged form and so is the stone. Put a round brilliant in a cathedral and the curves fight the lines. A step cut sits in it the way a window sits in a frame.

Wearing and stacking

This is the easiest of our designs to pair. The arches lift the stone just enough that a straight wedding band slides right up under it and sits flush against the shank with no gap.

Made to order in Surat, India

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. A cathedral is judged by whether both arches match exactly, since any difference shows immediately from the front. Ours are filed and finished as a pair, not separately. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 12 to 16 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. With nothing set into the band and an open gallery, this is the simplest ring in our range to keep clean. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

Does the ring have any accent stones
No. Only the centre stone.

How high does the stone sit
Higher than a bezel, lower than a classic six claw solitaire. High enough for a flat band to sit underneath, low enough not to catch.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, by one to two sizes in either direction. The band is plain all the way round.

Is moissanite hard enough for daily wear
Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.

Which finger sizes are available
Sizes 3 to 13 including half sizes. Message us before ordering if you need something outside that range.
