Emerald Cut Moissanite Half Bezel Open End Solitaire Engagement Ring

An emerald cut moissanite held by two flat walls of metal along its long edges, with both ends left completely open. There are no claws anywhere on this ring. The stone is gripped from the sides only, which means the top and bottom of the rectangle run straight out into the air with nothing over them, and the outline you see is the true outline of the stone.

It is set east to west, lying across the finger rather than along it, which makes the emerald cut look wider and gives the ring a flat, modern, almost architectural profile. The band is a slim polished wire that meets the setting cleanly with no gallery, no basket and no decoration of any kind.

How it compares to our other bezel emerald cut rings

Every design is listed separately. Our full bezel ring wraps metal all the way around the stone. Our milgrain bezel adds a beaded rim. Our flush bezel sinks the stone level with the band. This is the only one that covers just two sides and leaves the ends bare, and it is the only one set east to west. Less metal touches the stone here than in any other setting we offer, so more of the emerald cut is visible, and the ring sits flatter on the hand than any of the others.

Metals and sizes

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. All gold is solid, never plated and never filled. White gold is rhodium finished. Yellow gold is shown here and suits the design because the two bezel walls become a deliberate band of colour against the stone. Centre stone sizes run from 2 carat to 5 carat, and larger stones look particularly good in this setting because nothing competes with them.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India. Every ring is made by our own team after you order. A half bezel is cut to the exact dimensions of the individual stone, because with no claws to adjust there is no tolerance anywhere. That is why we make this one only to order and never from a stock setting. If you would prefer it set north to south along the finger, tell us in the order notes before we begin.

Care

Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale and takes daily wear well. Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. This is the easiest ring in our range to keep clean, because there are no claws, no gallery and no pave for anything to collect behind. Dry with a soft cloth.

A note on the open ends

The corners of the emerald cut sit exposed at both ends. Moissanite is hard and this is a perfectly practical everyday ring, but we would rather say plainly that a full bezel protects the corners better. If you work with your hands and want maximum protection, our full bezel design is the safer choice.

Resizing

The band is plain the whole way round, so this ring resizes freely by several sizes. Contact us before ordering if you are unsure of the finger size and we will help you measure.

Questions people ask

Is the centre stone a diamond? No. It is moissanite, a gemstone in its own right, and we never describe it as a diamond.

What does east to west mean? The long axis of the stone runs across the finger rather than up and down it. It makes the stone look wider and the ring look more modern.

Is a half bezel secure? Yes. The walls grip the full length of both long edges, which is a great deal of contact. The exposed part is the two ends.

Can I wear a wedding band with it? Yes, and it pairs better than almost anything else we make. The setting is low and flat, so a straight band sits right against it on either side.

Does the price change with carat size? Yes. The 2 carat is the base price and each larger size adds a small amount. The exact price appears when you select a combination.
