Emerald Cut Moissanite Double Claw Milgrain Hidden Halo Engagement Ring

An emerald cut moissanite held by eight claws rather than four, set in pairs at each corner. Paired claws are an old jeweller's habit from a time when large stones were expensive enough to be worth over engineering, and they give the corners of an emerald cut noticeably better protection than a single claw does. They also change the way the ring reads from above, with four small clusters of gold rather than four single fingers.

Beneath the stone sits a hidden halo of fine accents, edged with milgrain along both rims so the underside of the setting has an antique finish rather than a plain modern one. A single row of small pave runs down each shoulder on a slim band and stops before the back.

How it compares to our other hidden halo emerald cut rings

Every design is listed separately. Our plain band hidden halo has no stones on the shank at all and four single claws. Our micropave hidden halo uses a very fine row and a thinner band. Our twisted hidden halo spirals the pave around the shoulders. This is the only one with paired claws and milgrain on the hidden halo, which makes it the most protective setting of the group and the most antique in feel. If the corners of an emerald cut worry you, this is the design to choose.

Metals and sizes

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. All gold is solid, never plated and never filled. White gold is rhodium finished. Yellow gold is shown here and the paired claws read particularly clearly against a white centre stone in a warm metal. Centre stone sizes run from 2 carat to 5 carat.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India. Every ring is made by our own team after you order. Eight claws take twice as long to file and finish as four, and each pair has to be matched so the two sit level with one another. If you would prefer four single claws for a cleaner outline, tell us in the order notes before we begin and we will make it that way at the same price.

Care

Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale and takes daily wear well. Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, working underneath the head where the hidden halo and its milgrain collect residue. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Paired claws are more secure than single ones but there are twice as many to check, so have them looked over once a year.

Resizing

The back of the band is plain, so this ring resizes by one to two sizes without touching the pave. Contact us before ordering if you are unsure of the finger size and we will help you measure.

Questions people ask

Is the centre stone a diamond? No. Every stone in this ring is moissanite, a gemstone in its own right, and we never describe it as a diamond.

Why do emerald cuts need corner protection? The corners are the thinnest part of the stone. Moissanite is hard and not especially prone to chipping, but the corners are still where a hard knock would land, and a pair of claws covers more of that edge than one.

Do eight claws hide more of the stone? A little, at the four corners only. The long sides are left completely open, so the table and the step facets are unobstructed.

Can I wear a wedding band with it? Yes. The head sits centrally over a plain lower shank, so a straight band meets it flush.

Does the price change with carat size? Yes. The 2 carat is the base price and each larger size adds a small amount. The exact price appears when you select a combination.
