The strands weave over and under one another in a closed loop with genuine openings between them, so light passes straight through the shoulder. Why this ring works

A Celtic knot has no beginning and no end, which is the reason it has been used on wedding jewellery for centuries and the reason it needs no explanation when someone asks about the ring. Executed as genuine openwork rather than a surface pattern, it also does something practical: the voids in the knot let daylight through the shoulders, so the ring does not read as a solid block of metal beside a large stone. On a step cut centre stone the effect is unusually balanced, because the knot supplies intricacy while the emerald cut supplies calm.

Setting and band

Four fine claw prongs hold the corners of the emerald cut above an open gallery. Each shoulder carries an interlaced knot formed from strands that pass over and under one another with genuine open voids between them, pierced right through rather than modelled on the surface. The shank returns to a plain slim round profile at the back. Band width is approximately two millimetres at the knots. Metal is solid throughout with a polished interior.

Metal options

Choose from recycled 925 sterling silver, or solid 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. White gold, as photographed, keeps the knot reading as pure line and structure. Yellow gold gives it a warmer, older, more Celtic character. Rose gold sits between the two. White gold is rhodium finished.

Ring sizing

Every ring is made to order in your size. Sizes run from 3 to 13, including half sizes. The plain band at the back allows minor adjustment later, but ordering the correct size keeps both knots sitting symmetrically. Contact us if you are unsure and we will help before production starts.

Care

Openwork traps lint and soap film inside the voids where a cloth cannot reach. Clean every few weeks with warm water, mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush, pushing the bristles right through each opening from both sides. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth. With no accent stones there are no small claws to check.

Questions people ask

Is the knot pierced right through? Yes. The openings go all the way through the metal, which is what lets light pass through the shoulders. A surface pattern would look flat by comparison.

Does a Celtic knot mean anything? Traditionally it represents continuity, having no start or finish. It is a genuinely old motif rather than a modern invention, which is part of why it does not date.

Are there any accent stones? None. The design is entirely metalwork, so there is nothing to loosen or replace over the years.

Which metal should I choose? White gold or sterling silver for a clean structural reading. Yellow or rose gold for a warmer, more traditional one. For daily wear over decades, 14K balances colour and durability best.
