Oval Moissanite Halo Ring with Vintage Pavé Band: A Buyer’s Guide

A halo-framed oval on a vintage-inspired pavé band. How it reads at large sizes, and why the metal you choose matters as much as the stone.

Written by the Mapple Gems workshop, Surat · Updated 13 October 2026

Short answer: This ring frames an oval moissanite in a halo on a vintage-inspired pavé band, made to order in 925 silver or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold, from 2 carats (9 × 7 mm) to 5 carats (12 × 10 mm). A halo adds about 2.6 mm each way, so the 4.5 carat (12.75 × 8.5 mm) reads at roughly 15.4 × 11.1 mm across the head.

This is our most glamorous single-ring oval: a halo around the centre and pavé down the band, with soft vintage detailing. It shines at every size, and at the largest sizes it is a true statement ring. Our latest order was a 4.5 carat oval in 14K yellow gold.

Oval cut moissanite halo ring, side profile

The sizes, with the halo

Size option Centre stone Approx. head with halo
2 carat 9 × 7 mm 11.6 × 9.6 mm
2.5 carat 10 × 8 mm 12.6 × 10.6 mm
3 carat 12 × 8 mm 14.6 × 10.6 mm
3.5 carat 12 × 8.5 mm 14.6 × 11.1 mm
4 carat 12.5 × 8.5 mm 15.1 × 11.1 mm
4.5 carat 12.75 × 8.5 mm 15.4 × 11.1 mm
5 carat 12 × 10 mm 14.6 × 12.6 mm

Head sizes are approximate. Note that the 5 carat is a broader, rounder oval than the 4.5 carat, so it looks wider but not longer.

Why yellow gold suits a large halo moissanite

A halo multiplies sparkle: every accent is another small brilliant. Moissanite already has strong coloured fire (dispersion 0.104), and it grows with stone size, so a large oval in a halo can look very lively in white metal. Yellow gold reflects warmth into the stones and visibly softens the rainbow, giving a richer, more vintage glow. It is the single most effective way to calm a large moissanite without changing the stone.

From the workshop

Our latest customer chose the 4.5 carat in 14K yellow gold, which is exactly the combination we would suggest for a large halo moissanite: warm metal to soften the fire, and 14K to hold the many small halo and pavé settings well. At about 15 mm long, the head will reach a good way along the finger. Cut a paper oval at 15.4 × 11.1 mm before deciding on the largest sizes; it shows the true footprint far better than any photo. And plan a setting check every two years — a halo and pavé band together hold dozens of small stones.

Before you order: a short checklist

  1. Do the paper test at the full head size, halo included.
  2. Choose warm metal for a softer, vintage glow; white for maximum sparkle.
  3. Choose 14K gold for daily wear.
  4. Get your size right first; the pavé band limits resizing.
  5. Plan a wedding band that sits beside the halo without a gap.

Frequently asked questions

How big does a 4.5 carat oval halo ring look?

The 12.75 × 8.5 mm oval reads at about 15.4 × 11.1 mm across the head with the halo.

Does yellow gold make moissanite look less rainbow?

Yes. Warm metal reflects into the stone and softens its coloured flashes, especially noticeable on large stones.

Why does the 5 carat look rounder?

It is 12 × 10 mm, wider and slightly shorter than the 4.5 carat’s 12.75 × 8.5 mm.

Can this ring be resized?

Only within limits, because pavé lines the band. Get the size right first.

How often should a halo ring be checked?

Every two years in gold, or yearly in silver.
