Oval Moissanite Halo Bridal Set: How a Halo Changes a 2 Carat Oval

The classic halo, explained by numbers: how much bigger it makes the centre look, how it compares with Art Deco and hidden halos, and how to look after a matched set.

Written by the Mapple Gems workshop, Surat Β· Updated 13 October 2026

Short answer: This bridal set pairs an oval moissanite in a classic halo with pavΓ© shoulders and a matching band, made to order in 925 silver or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold, in five sizes from 2 carats (9 Γ— 7 mm) to 4 carats (12.5 Γ— 8.5 mm). A halo adds roughly 2.6 mm to each dimension, so a 2 carat oval reads at about 11.6 Γ— 9.6 mm across the head.

A halo is the most efficient way to make a centre stone look bigger. This set uses the classic version β€” a single, even row of small round stones around the oval β€” with a matching pavΓ© band. Our latest order was the 2 carat version in sterling silver, which is exactly where a halo does the most work.

What a halo does to the numbers

A row of accent stones about 1.3 mm wide around the centre adds roughly 2.6 mm to the width and length of the head. On the 2 carat option:

Size option Centre stone Approx. head with halo
2 carat 9 Γ— 7 mm 11.6 Γ— 9.6 mm
2.5 carat 10 Γ— 8 mm 12.6 Γ— 10.6 mm
3 carat 12 Γ— 8 mm 14.6 Γ— 10.6 mm
3.5 carat 12 Γ— 8.5 mm 14.6 Γ— 11.1 mm
4 carat 12.5 Γ— 8.5 mm 15.1 Γ— 11.1 mm

Head sizes are approximate. The 2 carat with its halo covers about the same area as a 12 Γ— 8 mm oval on its own, which is why a halo is such good value: the centre stays modest and the ring reads generous.

Classic, Art Deco or hidden halo?

If you like the vintage version, see our oval Art Deco bridal set; for a halo you only see from the side, the hidden halo is the one.

The halo and moissanite’s fire

Every accent in a halo is a small brilliant, so a halo multiplies sparkle. The halo stones themselves look bright and white β€” they are too small for moissanite’s strong dispersion (0.104) to show colour β€” while the centre carries the rainbow flashes. White metal maximises the sparkle; yellow and rose gold soften it.

From the workshop

Our latest customer chose the 2 carat set in sterling silver. For a matched set, how you store the two rings matters as much as how you wear them. Wearing them together is fine β€” they were made to sit side by side. But in a drawer or a single pouch, the stones of one ring are far harder than the metal of the other (Mohs 9.25 against about 2.6 for silver) and slowly scratch it with every small movement. One soft pouch per ring removes that whole problem. In silver, have the halo settings checked once a year; in gold, every two years is enough.

Before you order: a short checklist

  1. Choose the size by the head measurement with the halo, not the centre alone.
  2. Cut a paper oval at that size and try it on the finger.
  3. Choose 14K gold for daily wear; silver for occasional wear or trying the design.
  4. Pick white metal for most sparkle, warm metal for a softer look.
  5. Plan to store the two rings in separate pouches.

Frequently asked questions

How much bigger does a halo make an oval look?

A halo row adds roughly 2.6 mm to each dimension, so a 9 Γ— 7 mm oval reads at about 11.6 Γ— 9.6 mm across the head.

What sizes does the oval halo bridal set come in?

Five: 2 carat (9 Γ— 7 mm), 2.5 carat (10 Γ— 8 mm), 3 carat (12 Γ— 8 mm), 3.5 carat (12 Γ— 8.5 mm) and 4 carat (12.5 Γ— 8.5 mm).

What is the difference between a halo and a hidden halo?

A halo frames the centre and is seen from above, making the stone look larger. A hidden halo sits underneath and is seen only from the side.

Is the wedding band included?

Yes. It is a bridal set: the halo engagement ring and the matching band are made together.

How should I store a bridal set?

In separate soft pouches. Stones are much harder than metal, so rings stored together slowly scratch each other.
