Pear Moissanite Tear Drop Cluster Ring: A Buyerβs Guide
A pear centre framed by a cluster of round and marquise accents. Why the size you pick changes the pearβs whole shape, and how to keep its point safe.

Short answer: Our Pear Moissanite Tear Drop Cluster Ring sets a pear-cut moissanite in a cluster of small round and marquise moissanites, made to order in 925 silver or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold, in seven sizes from 2 carats (9 Γ 7 mm) to 5 carats (15 Γ 9 mm). Above 3.5 carats the pear becomes much slimmer, so choose by millimetres and shape, not carat alone.
A cluster ring builds its look from many stones rather than one. Here a pear moissanite sits at the centre and small round and marquise stones gather around it, so the whole head reads larger and more textured than the pear alone. Our latest order was in sterling silver with a 2 carat centre β the softest, fullest pear in the range.
The pear changes shape as it grows
Moissanite is sold by millimetres with a diamond-equivalent carat figure, because it is about 15% lighter than diamond. On this ring, the length-to-width ratio swings widely between sizes β the largest change of any ring we make.
| Size option | Stone | Length : width | Shape |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 carat | 9 Γ 7 mm | 1.29 | Soft, full pear |
| 2.5 carat | 10 Γ 8 mm | 1.25 | Fullest |
| 3 carat | 12 Γ 8 mm | 1.50 | Classic teardrop |
| 3.5 carat | 12 Γ 9 mm | 1.33 | Broad teardrop |
| 4 carat | 14 Γ 8 mm | 1.75 | Very slim and long |
| 4.5 carat | 14.5 Γ 9 mm | 1.61 | Slim and long |
| 5 carat | 15 Γ 9 mm | 1.67 | Slim and long |
Most people picture a pear around 1.45 to 1.75. The 3 carat sits in that classic range; the 2 and 2.5 carat are rounder and softer; the 4 carat is the slimmest of all. At 14 to 15 mm long, the larger sizes also reach well along the finger β measure the space between your knuckles before choosing one.
Protecting the point
A pearβs point is its thinnest part and the place most likely to be nicked. Moissanite is Mohs 9.25 and has no cleavage planes, so it is tough, but an unprotected tip can still chip. The point should sit inside a V-shaped prong that wraps it. Check this on the CAD preview, along with which way the point faces β traditionally towards the fingertip.
What the cluster adds
Small round and marquise accents around the pear make the head read larger and add sparkle from every angle. Stones this small look bright and white, because moissaniteβs rainbow fire (dispersion 0.104) needs depth to show; the coloured fire stays in the centre stone. The cluster also means more settings to look after, and small pockets where soap and lotion collect.
From the workshop
Our latest customer chose the 2 carat pear in sterling silver, and for a first cluster ring it is a sensible combination: the smallest, fullest pear and the lightest price. Silver is soft (about Mohs 2.6), so the small prongs and beads of the cluster are what wear first, never the moissanite. Two simple habits help. Once a month, look at the cluster with your phoneβs camera zoomed in and check that every accent is still level. And clean it from underneath β a dull cluster is almost always film behind the stones, not damage. A five-minute soak in warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush through the gallery brings it back.
Before you order: a short checklist
- Choose the shape first (ratio), then the size, using the table above.
- Check the length against the space between your knuckles for the larger sizes.
- Confirm a V-prong wraps the point, and decide which way it faces.
- Choose 14K gold for daily wear; silver for trying the design.
- Plan a wedding band that sits neatly beside a cluster head.

Frequently asked questions
What sizes does the pear cluster ring come in?
Seven: 2 carat (9 Γ 7 mm), 2.5 carat (10 Γ 8 mm), 3 carat (12 Γ 8 mm), 3.5 carat (12 Γ 9 mm), 4 carat (14 Γ 8 mm), 4.5 carat (14.5 Γ 9 mm) and 5 carat (15 Γ 9 mm).
Which size gives the classic teardrop shape?
The 3 carat, 12 Γ 8 mm, with a 1.50 ratio. The 2 and 2.5 carat are rounder; the 4 to 5 carat sizes are slimmer and longer.
How is a pearβs point protected?
With a V-shaped prong that wraps the tip, so the thinnest part of the stone sits inside metal.
Do the cluster accents show rainbow colours?
Very little. Small moissanites are too shallow for strong fire, so they look bright and white; the coloured fire comes from the centre pear.
How do I clean a cluster ring?
Soak it for five minutes in warm water with a drop of washing-up liquid, then brush gently from underneath with a soft toothbrush and rinse in a bowl.
