Princess Cut Moissanite Pavé Band Ring: A Buyer’s Guide

A crisp square stone on a sparkling band. Why the corners decide everything about a princess cut, and what to check before you order.

Written by the Mapple Gems workshop, Surat · Updated 13 October 2026

Short answer: Our Princess Cut Moissanite Pavé Band Ring holds a square princess-cut moissanite with a claw wrapped over each corner, on a band about 1.9 mm wide with pavé down both shoulders. It is made to order in 925 silver or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold, from 2 to 5 carats. The corner claws matter most: a princess cut’s sharp points are where it can chip.

The princess cut is the square brilliant: a crisp outline from above, with the many small facets of a round underneath, so it sparkles far more than a square step cut such as an Asscher. This ring keeps the design simple — four corner claws and a pavé band — so the square shape does the talking. Our latest order was in sterling silver with a 3 carat stone.

Why the corners decide everything

A princess cut has four sharp, pointed corners. Points are the thinnest part of any stone and the most likely place for a chip after a knock. Moissanite is very hard (Mohs 9.25) and has no cleavage planes, so it is tougher in daily use than its numbers suggest — but a sharp, unprotected point can still be nicked.

The answer is the claw shape. On this ring each claw wraps around its corner, so the point sits inside metal rather than under a round prong tip. That is the correct way to hold a princess cut, and it also keeps the outline a clean square from above.

How a princess cut compares

Princess Radiant Asscher
Outline Square, sharp corners Square or rectangle, cropped corners Square, cropped corners
Facet style Brilliant Brilliant Step
Fire in moissanite Moderate Moderate to high Low
Chip risk Highest — needs corner claws Lower Lower
Look Crisp and modern Bright, softer edge Art Deco, calm

In moissanite, the princess sits in the middle of the fire range: livelier than step cuts, calmer than a round or oval. Many people find that balance ideal.

The pavé band

The band is about 1.9 mm wide with small round moissanites set down both shoulders. Stones this small look bright and white, because moissanite’s rainbow fire needs depth to show; the pavé adds glitter without competing with the centre. Two practical points: pavé limits resizing, so get the size right first; and stones are far harder than gold, so a plain wedding band worn directly against the pavé will slowly wear where they touch.

From the workshop

Our latest customer chose sterling silver with a 3 carat princess. In silver, the stone is never the weak point — the metal is. Silver is about Mohs 2.6, and the part that wears first is the tip of each corner claw, which is exactly what protects the princess’s points. A worn claw tip looks flattened rather than neatly rounded, and it shows long before a stone is at risk. Look at the four corners with a magnifier every few months, have them checked by a jeweller once a year in silver, and move to 14K gold if this becomes the ring you never take off.

Before you order: a short checklist

  1. Confirm on the CAD preview that each claw wraps its corner.
  2. Ask for the stone’s millimetres for your chosen carat.
  3. Get your size right first; pavé bands have little plain metal to resize.
  4. Choose 14K gold for daily wear; silver for trying the design.
  5. Plan how you will wear a wedding band beside the pavé.

Frequently asked questions

Do princess cut stones chip easily?

Their sharp corners are the most vulnerable points of any common shape. Claws that wrap each corner protect them; moissanite’s hardness and lack of cleavage help too.

Does a princess cut moissanite sparkle?

Yes. It is a brilliant cut, so it sparkles far more than square step cuts, with moderate coloured fire — less than a round or oval, more than an Asscher or emerald.

What is the difference between a princess and a radiant cut?

Both are brilliant-faceted. A princess has sharp pointed corners; a radiant has cropped corners, which makes it less prone to chipping.

How wide is the band?

About 1.9 mm, with pavé moissanites set down both shoulders.

Can I wear a wedding band with a pavé band ring?

Yes. The pavé stones will slowly wear a plain band where they touch, so consider a thin spacer or a band that sits slightly apart.
