Emerald Cut Moissanite Three Stone Cathedral Ring with Large Pears
A calm step-cut centre between two lively pears, all set level on cathedral shoulders. Why the contrast works, and what a high, wide head asks of you.

Short answer: This ring sets an emerald cut moissanite in four claws between two large pear moissanites, points outward, with all three stones at the same height on cathedral shoulders and a squared open gallery. It is made to order in 925 silver or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold, from 2 to 5 carats. Three stones level across a wide head make it look larger than its carat weight.
The pears on this ring are generous β each wide enough to fill its shoulder β and they sit level with the centre. That is the most traditional way to build a three stone ring, and it is why the ring reads so large on the hand. The shoulders rise in a cathedral arc to carry the stones, and behind the head the arc opens into a squared gallery you can see straight through. Our latest order was a 4 carat centre in sterling silver.
A step cut between two brilliants
The emerald cut is a step cut: long flat facets that work like a window, giving broad, glassy flashes and the least coloured fire of any moissanite shape. The pears are brilliants, which disperse light strongly β moissaniteβs dispersion is 0.104, more than twice diamondβs. Side by side, the calm centre and the sparkling sides create contrast, and the eye goes to the centre because it looks different.
| Feature | What it gives | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Level stones | A wide, unified face | Head height on the CAD side view |
| Cathedral shoulders | Support and an elegant rise | Wedding band fit beneath the arch |
| Pears point outward | A long, tapering outline | V-claws on both outer points |
| Open gallery | Light and easy cleaning | Brush through it regularly |
Matching three moissanites
A three stone ring is the one design where people notice small differences in colour and brightness between stones. Moissanite is not graded by any laboratory, so matching is done by eye. Ask for the three to be chosen together under the same light and look at them on video before setting.
From the workshop
Our latest customer chose a 4 carat emerald centre with these large pears, in sterling silver. That is a wide, high head β three sizeable stones held level above cathedral shoulders. Two things follow. First, a head that wide meets doorframes and car keys more often, and in silver (about Mohs 2.6) the claws are what wear, never the moissanite; have them checked every year. Second, a high cathedral leaves room underneath, and that is good news: the open gallery means you can brush right under all three stones. A three stone ring that looks dull is almost always filmed underneath; five minutes in warm soapy water and a soft brush through the gallery brings it back.
Before you order: a short checklist
- Ask for the total width across all three stones and do a paper test.
- Check the head height on the CAD side view.
- Confirm V-claws on the outward pear points.
- Ask to see the three stones together on video before setting.
- Choose 14K gold for daily wear at larger sizes; plan a band that fits under the cathedral.

Frequently asked questions
What is a cathedral setting?
One where the shoulders of the band rise in arches to support the head, like the arches of a cathedral. It lifts and frames the stones.
Why does this ring look bigger than its carat weight?
Its large pear sides sit level with the centre, so the three stones read as one wide face across the finger.
Does an emerald cut moissanite sparkle?
It shows broad, glassy flashes rather than rainbow sparkle. Next to brilliant pear sides, that calm look stands out.
Will a wedding band fit with a cathedral ring?
Often, because the arch leaves space underneath; three stone heads are wide, though, so check the fit on the CAD side view.
How do I clean a three stone ring?
Soak it in warm soapy water for five minutes and brush gently through the open gallery from underneath with a soft toothbrush.
