Marquise Moissanite Split Shank Bridal Set with East-West Emerald Band

A long marquise running along the finger, and a band of emerald cuts turned across it. Why the contrast works, and how a marquise should be held.

Written by the Mapple Gems workshop, Surat Β· Updated 13 October 2026

Short answer: This bridal set pairs a marquise moissanite solitaire β€” six prongs with a V-prong on each point, on a plain split shank β€” with a straight wedding band of east-west emerald-cut moissanites. It is made to order in 925 silver or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold, from 2 to 5 carats. The V-prongs are the detail that matters most on a marquise.

A marquise is the longest-looking stone for its weight, and it makes the finger look longer too. This set keeps the engagement ring plain so the marquise does all the talking, then adds a band of small emerald cuts turned sideways. The two rings use opposite cutting styles and opposite directions, which is exactly why they look good together. Our latest order was the 2 carat set in 14K yellow gold.

Two points that need protecting

A marquise has a point at each end. Points are the thinnest part of any stone and where chips happen after a knock. Moissanite is Mohs 9.25 and has no cleavage planes, so it is tough in everyday wear, but an exposed tip can still be nicked. This ring wraps each point in a V-shaped prong and adds four more prongs along the sides β€” six in all β€” so the stone is held securely even if one prong is damaged.

Why the two rings work together

Engagement ring Wedding band
Stone One marquise A row of emerald cuts
Direction North-south, along the finger East-west, across the finger
Cutting style Brilliant: lively, fiery Step: calm, glassy flashes
Shank Plain, split under the head Straight

A brilliant marquise in moissanite (dispersion 0.104) throws strong, colourful fire. Small step-cut stones show very little; they flash rather than sparkle. Putting them side by side gives contrast instead of competition, and the sideways direction of the band’s stones frames the long marquise.

From the workshop

Our latest customer chose this set in 14K yellow gold, which is the combination we would suggest for a marquise moissanite. A marquise is one of the more fiery moissanite shapes, and yellow gold reflects warmth into the stone, softening the rainbow flashes into something gentler. 14K is also harder than 18K, which matters for the V-prongs: they are the part that takes every knock aimed at the stone’s points. Look at them every few months. A healthy prong tip looks rounded and defined; a worn one looks flattened. That change shows long before the stone is at risk.

Before you order: a short checklist

  1. Ask for the marquise’s millimetres for your chosen carat and do a paper test on the finger.
  2. Confirm V-prongs on both points on the CAD preview.
  3. Check that the straight band sits beside the split shank without a gap.
  4. Choose 14K gold for daily wear; yellow gold for a calmer moissanite.
  5. Store the two rings in separate pouches.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a marquise need V-prongs?

Its two points are the thinnest parts of the stone and the most likely to chip. A V-prong wraps each point in metal.

What is a split shank?

A band that divides into two arms as it rises to the head, opening up the side profile and adding width without extra stones.

Is the wedding band included?

Yes. The set includes the marquise engagement ring and the east-west emerald-cut wedding band.

Does a marquise moissanite show a lot of fire?

Yes, it is one of the livelier moissanite shapes. Yellow or rose gold softens the coloured flashes; white metal shows them fully.

Why are the band’s stones set east-west?

Turning them across the finger contrasts with the marquise running along it, so the two rings frame each other rather than compete.
