A round brilliant lab grown diamond held in a full bezel, lifted over a hidden halo, on a band that splits into two arms as it approaches the setting. It is an unusual combination, because a bezel normally reads as minimal and a split shank as decorative, and putting them together gives you a ring that is clean at the stone and architectural below it. The bezel wraps the girdle completely so nothing catches, the hidden halo adds light from the side where only the wearer sees it, and the split opens up space beneath the diamond so it does not sit heavy on the finger. Every diamond is a laboratory grown diamond, identical in carbon structure, hardness and brilliance to a mined diamond, graded E colour and VVS2 clarity. What is a bezel setting

A bezel is a thin collar of metal that wraps around the entire outer edge of the diamond and holds it in place, instead of the small claws used in a prong setting. It sits flush, which makes it the most secure and lowest maintenance way to set a stone. It is the setting we most often recommend for people who work with their hands or simply do not want to think about their ring.

What is a split shank

A split shank is a band that divides into two arms as it approaches the centre stone instead of continuing as a single unbroken loop. It widens the top of the ring visually, which makes the centre stone look larger, and the open space between the arms keeps a substantial design from feeling solid.

What is a hidden halo

A hidden halo is a ring of small diamonds set horizontally around the basket underneath the centre stone, facing outward rather than upward. From directly above you do not see it, so the ring reads as a clean bezel. From the side and from the wearer's own eye level it catches light and lifts the stone visually.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond

Yes. A lab grown diamond is real diamond. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index and the same fire and brilliance as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled laboratory over a few weeks instead of underground over billions of years. No jeweller can tell the difference by eye, only specialist equipment reading growth patterns can separate the two.

Will a wedding band sit flush against a split shank

Not against a straight band, because the split widens where the two rings would meet. Most customers choose a contoured band shaped to follow the curve of the split, or wear a plain band lower on the finger with a deliberate gap. We can make a contoured band matched to this exact ring, just ask when you order.

Does this ring come with a certificate

Yes. Every ring ships with a free IGI certificate for the centre stone. IGI is the International Gemological Institute, one of the largest independent diamond grading laboratories in the world. The certificate confirms the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade and the laboratory grown origin. There is no extra charge for the certificate.

What does E colour VVS2 actually mean

E colour is the second highest grade on the diamond colour scale and sits inside the colourless range, so the diamond looks bright white with no warm or yellow tint. VVS2 means very very slightly included, the second highest clarity tier. Any inclusions are so small that a trained grader needs 10x magnification to find them and they are completely invisible to the naked eye.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond gives you a materially identical stone for a fraction of the price of a mined equivalent, which is what makes a 4 carat or 5 carat round centre realistic on a normal budget. Round brilliants are the most expensive shape per carat when mined, because more rough is lost in cutting them than any other shape, so the saving is largest here. Because the origin of every stone is documented from the moment it is grown, a lab grown diamond is conflict free by definition. Growing a diamond also avoids the open pit excavation, land disruption and water use that mining a comparable stone requires.
