An elongated oval lab grown diamond held in a half bezel, where metal wraps the two long sides of the stone and leaves the rounded ends completely open. It is the middle ground between a prong setting and a full bezel, you get the security and the clean modern line of a bezel along the vulnerable edges, but the open tips let light in from both ends so the diamond does not lose brightness. On an elongated oval the effect is particularly good, because the two bands of metal follow and emphasise the length of the stone. What is a half bezel setting

A half bezel, sometimes called a partial bezel, wraps metal around only part of the stone, usually the two long sides, leaving the remaining edges open. It gives most of the protection and the flush modern look of a full bezel while showing more of the diamond and letting more light enter from the sides. It is a popular compromise for people who like bezels but do not want the stone fully framed.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond

Yes. A lab grown diamond is real diamond. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index and the same fire and brilliance as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled laboratory over a few weeks instead of underground over billions of years. No jeweller can tell the difference by eye, only specialist equipment reading growth patterns can separate the two.

Is a half bezel as secure as a full bezel

Almost. A full bezel is the most secure setting there is because nothing is exposed. A half bezel covers the long edges, which are where an oval is most likely to take a knock, and leaves only the rounded ends open, and those ends are the strongest part of the stone. In practice it is considerably more secure than prongs and needs less maintenance.

Does this ring come with a certificate

Yes. Every ring ships with a free IGI certificate for the centre stone. IGI is the International Gemological Institute, one of the largest independent diamond grading laboratories in the world. The certificate confirms the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade and the laboratory grown origin. There is no extra charge for the certificate.

What does elongated mean on an oval diamond

It refers to the length to width ratio. A standard oval sits around 1.35 to 1.45 to one, while an elongated oval is cut longer, often 1.5 to one or more. The longer stone covers more of the finger, looks larger for its carat weight and has a stronger slimming effect on the hand.

Why do oval diamonds look bigger than round diamonds of the same weight

An oval spreads its weight across a longer surface, so for the same carat weight it presents a larger face up area than a round brilliant, typically around ten percent more. Cut to an elongated ratio, as this stone is, that difference becomes more pronounced still.

What does E colour VVS2 actually mean

E colour is the second highest grade on the diamond colour scale and sits inside the colourless range, so the diamond looks bright white with no warm or yellow tint. VVS2 means very very slightly included, the second highest clarity tier. Any inclusions are so small that a trained grader needs 10x magnification to find them and they are completely invisible to the naked eye.

A lab grown diamond gives you a materially identical stone for a fraction of the price of a mined equivalent, which is what makes a 4 carat or 5 carat elongated oval centre realistic on a normal budget.
