East-West Emerald Cut Moissanite Bezel Band: Three Ways to Wear It

One emerald cut moissanite turned sideways in a smooth bezel. Why the design works so well beside an engagement ring, and why it is just as good on its own.

Written by the Mapple Gems workshop, Surat Β· Updated 13 October 2026

Short answer: This band sets one emerald cut moissanite horizontally β€” β€œeast-west” β€” in a smooth full bezel, made to order in 925 silver or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold. The bezel keeps the stone low and protected, and because the stone sits inside metal, the band is gentle on a ring worn beside it. Wear it as a wedding band, on its own, or in a stack.

Most stone-set bands are rows of small stones. This one has a single emerald cut, turned across the finger and wrapped in a clean bezel. The result is graphic and modern, and it reads as a deliberate piece of jewellery rather than a supporting band. One customer ordered it in sterling silver together with our emerald cut half bezel engagement ring β€” a pairing we explain below.

What β€œeast-west” changes

An elongated stone set the usual way runs along the finger, β€œnorth-south”. Turned east-west, it lies across the finger instead. That makes the stone read wider and the ring look more contemporary. It also lets the bezel sit lower, because the long edge of the stone follows the curve of the band rather than standing above it.

Why a bezel band is kind to the ring beside it

Moissanite is Mohs 9.25; gold is about 2.8 and silver about 2.6. Any exposed stone rubbing against a metal ring will slowly cut into it. In a bezel, the stone sits inside its own rim of metal, so when two rings touch it is mostly metal against metal. That makes this band one of the most considerate choices to wear next to an engagement ring.

How Works best with Tip

On its own Everyday wear, a right-hand ring Low, smooth, nothing to catch

From the workshop

One customer ordered this band in sterling silver alongside our emerald cut half bezel engagement ring. It is a pairing we would recommend to anyone: both rings speak the same language β€” emerald cuts held in metal β€” but the band’s stone turns sideways, so the pair looks considered rather than matching. Because both stones sit inside metal, the rings wear well against each other. And ordering them together means they are made in one run, fitted to each other, and arrive in one shipment. Measure your finger for the pair, not for each ring separately: two rings worn together often need a slightly larger size than one alone.

Choosing the metal

Match the engagement ring’s metal and karat β€” β€œyellow gold” is not one colour, and 14K beside 18K shows a difference. A bezel has no thin claws to wear, so silver works well for this design. White gold needs its rhodium plating renewed every one to two years; yellow and rose gold do not.

Before you order: a short checklist

  1. Decide how you will wear it: as a wedding band, alone, or stacked.
  2. Match the metal and karat to your other rings.
  3. If worn with an engagement ring, size for both together.
  4. Check that the bezel sits beside your engagement ring without a gap, on the CAD side view.
  5. Consider ordering it with the engagement ring so they are fitted together.

Frequently asked questions

What does east-west mean on a ring?

The stone is set horizontally, across the finger, rather than along it. It reads wider and more modern and usually sits lower.

Can I wear this band with my engagement ring?

Yes. Its stone sits inside a bezel, so where the rings touch it is mostly metal against metal, which wears both rings far less than an exposed stone would.

Can it be worn on its own?

Yes. It is low and smooth with nothing to catch, which makes it a good everyday or right-hand ring.

Is a bezel band good in sterling silver?

Yes. A bezel has no thin prongs to wear, so silver’s softness matters less. Silver will tarnish over time and polishes back easily.

Should my ring size change if I wear two rings together?

Often slightly. Two rings together cover more of the finger and can feel tighter, so size for the pair when you will always wear them together.
