Emerald Cut Moissanite Half Bezel Ring: A Buyer’s Guide

Metal along the long sides, open at the ends. How a half bezel balances protection and light on an emerald cut, and how to pair it with a wedding band.

Written by the Mapple Gems workshop, Surat Β· Updated 13 October 2026

Short answer: Our Emerald Cut Moissanite Half Bezel Ring holds an emerald-cut moissanite with metal along its two long sides and leaves the short ends open. It protects more than prongs and lets in more light than a full bezel. It is made to order in 925 silver or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold, from 2 carats (8.5 Γ— 6.5 mm) to 5 carats (11 Γ— 9 mm).

A half bezel is a middle path. Two curved walls of metal grip the stone along its long edges, and the short ends are left open. From above, the ring looks lighter and more open than a full bezel, and the emerald cut’s long facets catch light from both ends.

It has been ordered twice: once in 18K yellow gold, and once in sterling silver at 2 carats, where the customer added a bezel-set east-west emerald wedding band in the same order. That pairing is worth explaining, and we do so below.

Half bezel, full bezel or prongs?

Four prongs Half bezel Full bezel
Protection Corners only, one claw each Long sides and, if wrapped, the corners The whole outline
Light into the stone Most Through the open ends Least from the sides
Catches on clothing Most likely Rarely Almost never
Look Classic, stone forward Modern, open Minimal, framed
Upkeep Prong checks every two years Low Lowest

The key question with a half bezel is the corners. An emerald cut’s four cropped corners are its most vulnerable points. Ask that the bezel walls wrap far enough round the ends to cover each corner. Seen on the CAD preview from above, the metal should curve around all four.

If you want the most protection of all, see our emerald cut full bezel ring with split shank.

Moissanite in an emerald cut

The emerald cut shows the least coloured fire of any moissanite shape. Its long, flat step facets work like a window: you see bright, broad flashes rather than rainbow sparkle. That suits people who want moissanite’s hardness (Mohs 9.25) and value with a calmer look. The window also shows the cutting clearly, so ask for a video of the stone in ordinary light.

Sizes in millimetres

Size option Stone
2 carat 8.5 Γ— 6.5 mm
2.5 carat 9 Γ— 7 mm
3 carat 9.3 Γ— 7.5 mm
3.5 carat 9.75 Γ— 7.7 mm
4 carat 10 Γ— 8 mm
4.5 carat 10.5 Γ— 8.5 mm
5 carat 11 Γ— 9 mm

Emerald cuts face up smaller per carat than rounds or ovals, because more of their weight sits in depth. Cut a paper rectangle at your chosen size and hold it on the finger before deciding.

From the workshop

One customer ordered this ring in sterling silver at 2 carats together with a bezel-set east-west emerald wedding band. It is one of the most sensible pairings we see. Stones are many times harder than gold or silver, so a stone-set band worn against a ring slowly cuts into it. In a bezel band, each stone sits inside its own rim of metal, so where the two rings touch it is mostly metal against metal. The pair also share one design language β€” emerald cuts, framed in metal β€” with the band’s stones turned sideways so they read as a deliberate contrast. Ordering both together meant they were made in one run and arrived in one shipment.

Choosing the metal

A half bezel has no thin claws, so it is a good setting for silver, which is soft (about Mohs 2.6). For daily wear over many years, 14K gold is the best balance of colour and hardness. 18K yellow gives the richest colour and is the softest gold, which the bezel helps with. White gold needs its rhodium plating renewed every one to two years.

Before you order: a short checklist

  1. Check on the CAD preview that the bezel walls cover all four corners.
  2. Choose the size by millimetres and try a paper rectangle on the finger.
  3. Ask for a video of the stone under ordinary light.
  4. Decide on your wedding band now; a bezel-set or plain band pairs best.
  5. Ask for the band thickness at the base: 1.8 mm or more for daily wear.

Frequently asked questions

What is a half bezel setting?

A setting where metal surrounds the stone on two sides β€” on an emerald cut, its long edges β€” and leaves the other two sides open to let in more light.

Is a half bezel as secure as a full bezel?

Nearly, provided the bezel walls wrap round the corners. A full bezel protects the whole outline; a half bezel trades a little protection for more light and a lighter look.

What wedding band goes with a half bezel emerald ring?

A plain band or a bezel-set band. In a bezel band each stone sits inside metal, so the two rings touch mostly metal to metal and wear each other less.

Does an emerald cut moissanite sparkle?

It shows bright, broad flashes rather than constant rainbow sparkle. It is the calmest moissanite shape.

What sizes does the half bezel emerald ring come in?

Seven, from 2 carats (8.5 Γ— 6.5 mm) to 5 carats (11 Γ— 9 mm).
