Station Bracelets and Bangles: Spaced Sparkle, Explained

A station piece places stones at intervals — stations — along a plain band or chain. It's the quieter cousin of the tennis bracelet, and often the more wearable one.

Short answer

A station bracelet or bangle has stones or small clusters set at intervals along the metal, with plain sections between. It gives sparkle without the full line of a tennis bracelet, so it's lighter, easier to stack and more everyday. Check that the stations are evenly spaced, that they sit on top of the wrist, and — for bangles — that the size fits over the widest part of the hand.

Station designs let the metal show. The rhythm of stone, gold, stone, gold reads as refined rather than showy, which is why they work at the office, stacked with a watch, or on their own.

The detail that decides whether a station bangle looks right is where the stations sit. On a rigid bangle, the stones are usually concentrated on the top half, so they face up when worn and the underside — which rests on desks — stays plain and smooth. On a chain bracelet the stations can rotate round the wrist, so a slightly heavier station section or a snugger fit helps keep them on top. And because a bangle has to pass over the hand, size it across the widest part of the hand with the thumb tucked in, not around the wrist.
