Oval Moissanite Bubble Band Ring: A Buyer’s Guide

A classic oval centre on a band of raised round stones. What a bubble band changes about owning a ring β€” resizing, cleaning and the wedding band β€” and how to choose your size and metal.

Written by the Mapple Gems workshop, Surat Β· Updated 13 October 2026

Short answer: Our Oval Moissanite Bubble Band Ring sets an oval moissanite on a band of round moissanites held in raised, rounded settings that give a soft β€œbubble” texture. It is made to order in 925 silver or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold, from 2 carats (9 Γ— 7 mm) to 5 carats (12 Γ— 10 mm). Because the band is stone-set, ask how far the stones run before ordering.

Most engagement rings put all the interest in the centre stone. This one shares it with the band. Each round stone on the shank sits in its own raised, rounded setting, so the band looks like a row of polished bubbles catching light β€” playful, textured and very different from flat pavΓ©.

Two customers have ordered it, and both chose 10K white gold: one at 2 carats, one at 3.5 carats. Here is what we would want anyone to know before choosing it.

What a bubble band changes

A stone-set band is beautiful, but it behaves differently from a plain one in three practical ways.

Plain band solitaire Bubble band
Resizing Straightforward Limited by how far the stones run around the band
Settings to check Four prongs Four prongs plus every band stone
Wedding band beside it Any plain band Stones abrade a plain gold band over time
Cleaning Quick Brush between the bubbles, where film collects
Look Quiet, timeless Textured, more sparkle from every angle

Resizing

A ring is resized by cutting and adjusting the metal at the bottom of the band. If stones run all the way round, there is no plain metal to work on. Ask how far the bubbles extend. If the underside is left plain, small size changes stay possible; if the stones go most of the way round, get the size right before ordering, measuring the inside diameter of a ring that already fits.

The wedding band

Moissanite is Mohs 9.25 and gold is about 2.8. A row of stones rubbing against a plain gold band will slowly cut into it. If you plan to wear a band beside this ring, choose one that sits slightly apart, add a thin plain spacer, or simply accept some wear on the band and have it refinished from time to time.

Cleaning

Rounded settings create small pockets between the stones, and that is where soap, hand cream and sunscreen collect. A dull bubble band is almost always film, not damage. Soak it in warm water with a drop of washing-up liquid for five minutes and brush gently between the bubbles and under the centre stone with a soft toothbrush.

The centre stone sizes

The oval comes in seven sizes. The shape changes slightly between them, so compare the millimetres.

Size option Stone Shape
2 carat 9 Γ— 7 mm Full oval
2.5 carat 10 Γ— 8 mm Full, close to round
3 carat 12 Γ— 8 mm Long and slim
3.5 carat 12 Γ— 8.5 mm Classic elongated
4 carat 12.5 Γ— 8.5 mm Elongated
4.5 carat 12.75 Γ— 8.5 mm Long and slim
5 carat 12 Γ— 10 mm Broad, nearly round

A bubble band adds visual weight to the shank, so it balances best with a centre stone that is not too small. The 3.5 carat (12 Γ— 8.5 mm) is a natural middle: a classic oval shape with enough presence to hold its own against the band.

From the workshop

Both customers who ordered this ring chose 10K white gold. White metal makes sense with a bubble band: it reflects little colour into the stones, so every bubble looks bright and icy. But white gold is not naturally white. It is alloyed gold finished with rhodium plating, and 10K white gold has a noticeably warmer base colour under that plating than 18K. When the plating thins β€” usually on the underside first, after one to two years β€” the warmth starts to show. Re-plating is a routine bench job, and with a stone-set band it is a good moment to have every setting checked too.

Before you order: a short checklist

  1. Ask how far the bubble stones run around the band, and whether the underside stays plain.
  2. Get your size right first: measure the inside diameter of a ring that already fits.
  3. Decide how you will wear a wedding band beside it β€” apart, with a spacer, or accepting some wear.
  4. Choose white metal for the brightest look, yellow or rose for a warmer, calmer one.
  5. Look closely at the CAD preview’s side view: the bubbles should sit evenly in a level row.

Frequently asked questions

What is a bubble band ring?

A band set with small round stones, each held in its own raised, rounded setting, so the shank has a soft bubbly texture rather than a flat surface.

Can a bubble band ring be resized?

Only if part of the band underneath is left plain. If the stones run most of the way round, there is little metal to adjust, so get the size right before ordering.

Can I wear a plain wedding band next to a bubble band ring?

Yes, but the stones are far harder than gold and will slowly wear the plain band where they touch. A thin spacer band or a little space between the rings reduces this.

Why does my bubble band look dull?

Almost always film from soap, lotion or sunscreen between the stones. A five-minute soak in warm soapy water and a soft brush between the bubbles restores it.

Does white gold need maintenance?

Yes. White gold is finished with rhodium plating that thins with wear and usually needs renewing every one to two years. Yellow and rose gold do not.
