An emerald cut turned across the finger and wrapped in a bezel. How wide each size really sits, and why this is one of the most practical engagement rings we make.

Short answer: This ring sets an emerald cut moissanite east-west β across the finger β in a full bezel. It is made to order in 925 silver or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold, in seven sizes from 2 carats (8.5 Γ 6.5 mm) to 5 carats (11 Γ 9 mm). Because the stone lies sideways, its length becomes its width on the hand, so check how far it reaches across your finger.
Turning an emerald cut sideways changes it from a classic to a modern, graphic ring. Wrapping it in a bezel makes it low, smooth and protective. Our latest order was the 2.5 carat in 10K white gold.
How wide each size sits across the finger
Set east-west, the stoneβs length runs across your finger. The bezel rim adds a little more β roughly half a millimetre to a millimetre each side, depending on the build.
| Size option | Stone | Across the finger | Along the finger |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 carat | 8.5 Γ 6.5 mm | 8.5 mm + rim | 6.5 mm + rim |
| 2.5 carat | 9 Γ 7 mm | 9 mm + rim | 7 mm + rim |
| 3 carat | 9.3 Γ 7.5 mm | 9.3 mm + rim | 7.5 mm + rim |
| 3.5 carat | 9.75 Γ 7.7 mm | 9.75 mm + rim | 7.7 mm + rim |
| 4 carat | 10 Γ 8 mm | 10 mm + rim | 8 mm + rim |
| 4.5 carat | 10.5 Γ 8.5 mm | 10.5 mm + rim | 8.5 mm + rim |
| 5 carat | 11 Γ 9 mm | 11 mm + rim | 9 mm + rim |
On a slender finger, the larger sizes cover most of the fingerβs width and can press against the fingers either side. Cut a paper rectangle at your size and lay it across the finger to check before ordering.
Why east-west plus a bezel is so practical
Set east-west, the long edge of the stone follows the curve of the band instead of standing above it, so the ring sits low. A bezel then wraps the whole outline in metal, protecting the emerald cutβs four corners with no prongs to bend or catch. The result is one of the lowest, smoothest engagement rings you can wear β good for work with your hands, gloves and knitwear. The emerald cut is also the calmest moissanite shape: broad flashes rather than rainbow sparkle.
From the workshop
Our latest customer chose the 2.5 carat in 10K white gold. A bezel and white gold together give the crispest, most modern version of this ring β a clean white frame around a clean white stone. White gold gets that colour from rhodium plating, and on a bezel ring the rim is where the plating wears first, because it is the highest point of metal on the ring. 10K white gold also has a warmer base colour than 18K, so when the plating thins, the rim shows it first. Renewing the plating every one to two years keeps the frame bright; it is a routine bench job.
Before you order: a short checklist
- Lay a paper rectangle at your size across the finger.
- Ask for a video of the stone in ordinary light; emerald cuts show their cutting clearly.
- Choose white metal for a crisp, modern look, or yellow for warmth.
- Plan a wedding band that sits flush against a low bezel.
- Ask for the band thickness at the base: 1.8 mm or more for daily wear.

Frequently asked questions
What does east-west mean for an emerald cut ring?
The stone is set sideways, with its length running across the finger rather than along it.
How wide is a 2.5 carat east-west emerald cut?
The stone is 9 Γ 7 mm, so it sits about 9 mm across the finger, plus the bezel rim.
Does an east-west setting sit lower?
Usually, yes. The stoneβs long edge follows the curve of the band, so it sits closer to the finger.
Is a bezel good for an emerald cut?
Yes. It protects all four corners in one rim of metal and has no prongs to catch or wear.
Does white gold need maintenance?
Yes. Its rhodium plating needs renewing every one to two years; on a bezel ring the rim shows wear first.
