The Best Moissanite Engagement Ring Brand: What to Look For, and Why Couples Choose Mapple Gems
Six things the best moissanite brand should give you before you pay, and exactly how our Surat workshop delivers each one.

Short answer
The best moissanite engagement ring brand is the one that states its metal in numbers, tells you gram weight and shank thickness, sizes stones in millimetres, shows you a CAD before casting and a video before shipping. Mapple Gems makes every ring to order in its own Surat workshop, in solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold or 925 silver, with free standard worldwide shipping.
Almost every moissanite listing online says the same thing: "D color, VVS1, 14K gold, best quality". Those words cost nothing to write, which is why they tell you so little. Moissanite (silicon carbide, SiC) is a remarkable stone โ Mohs 9.25 hardness, a refractive index of 2.65โ2.69 and more than twice a diamond's dispersion โ but the stone is only half of an engagement ring. The other half is the metal, the setting and the way it was made, and that is where brands genuinely differ.
So rather than tell you we are the best, here is the standard we think the best moissanite brand should meet, and what Mapple Gems does against each point. You can hold us to every line of it. Considering a diamond instead? We have written the same guide for the best lab grown diamond engagement ring brand.
The standard, and how Mapple Gems meets it
| What the best brand should give you | What Mapple Gems gives you |
|---|---|
| Who makes the ring | Our own workshop in Surat, Gujarat โ made to order, not resold from stock |
| Metal, stated in numbers | Solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, white or rose, or 925 sterling silver โ never plated base metal |
| Stone size in millimetres | Every size option shows its mm measurement next to the carat figure |
| A design you can change | Prongs, band, setting and metal can be modified, with a CAD render shared before casting |
| Proof before shipping | Ask for gram weight, shank thickness and a video of your finished ring โ we send them |
| Honest delivery times | About a week of bench work, then free standard shipping worldwide or paid expedited shipping |
1. Made in our own workshop, not resold
A large share of moissanite rings sold online are the same factory piece relisted under many shop names. That matters less for how the ring looks on day one and more for everything after: the seller who did not make your ring does not know its alloy, its shank dimensions or its stone sizes, and cannot repair or remake it to the original specification.
Mapple Gems rings are made to order in our workshop in Surat โ one of the world's great stone-cutting cities. The person you message is connected to the bench that casts, sets and polishes your ring, which is why we can answer specification questions that a reseller cannot.
2. Solid gold, never plated
The quickest way to judge any moissanite brand is its metal description. "14K gold plated", "gold tone" and "18K over silver" all mean a thin layer that wears through on the underside of a ring within months of daily wear. If a description needs a preposition โ plated over, filled, vermeil โ it is not solid gold.
Every Mapple Gems engagement ring is offered in solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, white or rose, or in solid 925 sterling silver. White gold carries the usual rhodium finish, as white gold does everywhere. For an engagement ring worn every day, we generally recommend 14K: it holds prongs and resists marks better than 18K, and costs less.
3. Stones sized in millimetres, not just carats
From the workshop bench
Moissanite is about 15% less dense than diamond (specific gravity 3.21 vs 3.52), so it is sold by "diamond equivalent weight". A 6.5mm round sold as "1 carat" actually weighs about 0.88ct. That means two sellers quoting "2 carats" can be selling stones of different sizes โ the millimetre figure is the only number you can compare.
There is a second trap. No independent laboratory grades moissanite the way GIA or IGI grade diamonds, so "D color VVS1" on a moissanite listing is always the seller's own assessment. If a stone measures noticeably larger than standard for its stated weight, that usually means a shallow cut that leaks light โ not a bonus. This is why we print the mm size on every option.
For a full table by shape, see our moissanite size chart.
4. A design you can actually change
Most buyers do not need a fully bespoke ring. What they want is an existing design with a few things changed: a thicker shank, a lower profile, six prongs instead of four, a hidden halo, a different metal. Because we make every ring to order, the specification stays open until casting. Tell us what you want changed and we will share a CAD render for approval before anything is made.
The things worth deciding at that stage are the ones that cannot be changed later: profile height, shank thickness (1.8mm or more at the base for daily wear), and whether a straight wedding band will sit flush. Our guide to reading a CAD render shows what to check.
5. Proof before your ring ships
A product photo is taken in a lightbox, which flatters every stone equally. What tells you about your ring is a video in ordinary light, the finished gram weight, and the shank thickness. Ask us for any of them and we will send them. The same applies if you choose a lab grown diamond centre instead of moissanite: those stones come with an IGI report, and we will share it.
6. Delivery times stated honestly
Every ring is made after you order. Bench work takes about a week, and then your ring travels by tracked courier. Standard shipping is free worldwide and takes around 10โ12 days in transit; expedited shipping takes around 6โ8 days. Allow roughly two and a half to three weeks door to door on standard, a little over two on expedited โ and more in the December peak. If you are planning a proposal or a wedding date, order early, because a resize later means another international journey.

Frequently asked questions
What makes Mapple Gems a good moissanite engagement ring brand?
Mapple Gems makes every ring to order in its own workshop in Surat, India, in solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold or 925 sterling silver โ never plated base metal. Stone sizes are shown in millimetres, designs can be modified with a CAD render approved before casting, and buyers can ask for a video, gram weight and shank thickness before their ring ships.
Is a Mapple Gems moissanite ring solid gold?
Yes. Gold options are solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, white or rose. The other option is solid 925 sterling silver. Mapple Gems does not use gold plating over base metal, vermeil or gold-filled metal. White gold has the standard rhodium finish.
Do Mapple Gems moissanite rings come with a certificate?
No. No independent laboratory grades moissanite the way GIA or IGI grade diamonds, so a moissanite certificate would only repeat the seller's own assessment. Instead, Mapple Gems gives the stone size in millimetres and a video and written specification on request. Lab grown diamond centre stones come with an IGI report.
How long does a Mapple Gems engagement ring take to arrive?
Each ring is made to order, which takes about a week. Free standard worldwide shipping then takes around 10โ12 days in transit, or around 6โ8 days with paid expedited shipping. Allow roughly two and a half to three weeks door to door on standard shipping, and longer in December.
Can I customise a Mapple Gems moissanite engagement ring?
Yes. Prongs, band, setting, metal and stone shape can be changed on most designs. Message the workshop with the changes you want, and a CAD render is shared for approval before the ring is cast. Changes are quoted individually, and engraving is free.
